I've seen many posts over the years concerning slow power windows. In my experience, other than new replacement motors, none of the fixes actually work. I have two TRs that the passenger sides are slower than the slow driver's sides. They work, so I don't have too much of a problem with it, so I live with it. :)

For any of you who have this problem, and don't wish to 'live' with it, I have a solution for you. Yesterday, I purchased another 87 T. It was delivered to my door. When I got in the car, I attempted to put the window down, I'm pushing the buttons down, and they won't go. Then, I must have inadvertently pushed the button up, and ZOOM! The window flies down. I do the same to the passenger side, and again, ZOOM! It flies down. When I did the opposite, they were up in a flash. Needless to say, after 10 years of windows in slow motion, I was in shock!

As I went through the receipts on the car, I found one for an Electric Life window kit. It consists of motors and regulators and is a specific application for two-door G-bodies. The kit in my car was purchased a couple years ago for $239. Today they cost $249. The kit is listed at the bottom of the page I'm providing and the part # is GM19-K.

Here's the LINK where you can find out all you need to know. ;)

Oh yeah! Here's my new T ...

thanks for the info.my passengerside window is ridiculously slow, sometimes it will actually stop going and i would have to help it up.

I think I have posted that site a few times before...thanks for bringing it back up to the top.......where you been under a rock

John that car looks NICE!

Thanks for the info.
Hmm, that kit is designed for adding power windows to a car that doesnt have them to begin with. You can even order OEM type switches w/ wiring harnesses to go with it. Wonder if your new car originaly come with manual windows and this kit was added? With that being said, although would be nice to have new regulators and motors just wondering if the KIT is necessary for those with existing pwr windows, or just get the motors? Would just the motors solve our slow movement issues?
Here is a link I found for motorshttp://www.a1electric.com/motors.htm They are OE GM and cost $44.95 ea
Just a thought, thanks again for the info John! I didnt know about this company.

nice info. i was about to swtich over to manuel windows, cause i know they are faster then the stock pwr windows in my TR

looks like they have different motor on them maybe thats the reason they are faster .

The link you provided is the same company I linked to. I guess it's possible my new T came without PWs, so talking with a rep at the company to see what you need for fast windows would be advisable.

I've been around, but haven't been posting in tech that much. ;) Well, if you don't have this setup, you can take it from me, I was amazed at how fast the windows go up and down. I think I'll go out to my garage right now...........and PLAY WITH MY WINDOWS.

Has anyone ever tested the voltage at the passenger side window regulator when your trying to get the window up from the drivers side?

I think the power comes from the fuse panel, to the drivers side switch, then all the way over to the regulator.

I wonder if simply installing a relay right at the regulator would give proper 12v+ to the regulator and make the motor faster.

Surely there is some voltage drop from the drivers side switch all the way over to the regulator, installing a relay would help too.

Just the same way we hotwire our fuel pumps, now we are going to be hotwiring our window regulators!!

PS
John, nice chrome package car!! Where did you find it

Hey, how come no one ever drops off cars like that at my door!!! :frown: Oh yeah, I'm broke! ;) Thanks for the link, I would love to have some windows that people didn't laugh at.

I'm sure you can get used to this, but maybe if it's not too hard, you could turn the switches 180 degrees and then they'll work right. I'm sure you've already thought about this.
I sent them an email, asking what I would need if I already have power windows. I'll let the board know what they say. Thanks very much for sharing.

Well, the car doesn have power locks, so I'd assume it actually did come with PW. Maybe the motors alone would suffice, but possibly the motors only work with their supplied regulators.

Hey Brian, this car was restored by DKREDT here on the board. He sold it to someone and was again sold on the board a year later. A local guy close to me purchased it, kept it for a year, mentioned he wanted to buy his wife a boat and wanted to sell it, and I took delivery the next day. Although plain Jane to my taste, the car is stunning. Super nice paint and interior, lots of new parts, and all the chrome trim looks new because most was replaced in the last 3 or 4 years, and car hasn't been driven. There's not many like this that are for sale.

Man it really is pretty, update your signature when you get a chance, i would like to see more pictures of it!

Happy 4th of July :)

John, How many miles on your "T" It's absolutely beautiful !!!

It caught my eye as I have one the same colour ( Deep Rosewood ). Not sure if it's as nice as yours but it's only got 54,000 original miles.

It won "Outstanding in Class" at the 2005 World of Wheels. Been stored since. It's got the grey interior with manual windows ( interestingly enough ). It would be interesting to see them side by side. :)

Thanks George ....... It has 85K miles on it. That's low miles for me. :D I wish I could post more pictures now, but the CD files I received with the car are too big to post here. I was only able to post those couple photos. I'll take some pics of my own within the next few days. The T wheels, though they were in great shape, have also been professionally redone in the last few months.

Hey John

very impressive! whats a high class car like that doing in your garage??

you deserve it, I am really jealous.

more pics !

Hey Thanks Lee. First car I've had I won't have to start to get ready to paint it. Now, I won't be able to take credit for it's beauty. :( Aw hell! I'll just lie. :D

PS... All your stuff is on the way, and thanks again. ;)

I've done this and IMO its the number one reason for slow windows. It took me awhile to figure this one out. The GN is painfully slow and I have one Riv that is incrediblelly fast. Got out the volt meter and there was only 9 volts going to the big pink wire. I didn't have to use a relay, all I did was put on a fresh alternator and positive battery cable. Now the problem I have is that the windows are to fast. They have to be adjusted just right or they chatter on their way down. I'll challenge any body who says they can crank both windows faster than a touch of a button.
