I’m looking to upgrading to a duel fan setup. I went to the Spal website to take a look at fans. My radiator core is 27” X 18”. Therefore, I can fit two 12” diameter fans. There are several different fan models. Within these models it seems that there is a correlation between current input (amps) and airflow (cfm). The model that I’m looking at is P/N 30100176.

My question, is the amps that I can supply a factor of what alternator I have? If it is, is the stock alternator going to be adequate or should I look into upgrading that as well?

On a slightly different note………..has any one who has a front mount intercooler ever thought of pushing the radiator in towards the engine (since there is now room having moved the intercooler to outside the radiator) and putting a fan between the intercooler and the radiator? I was thinking about having two fans on the radiator and one fan between the intercooler and the radiator. It was just an idea, maybe a little crazy, but was thinking about it none the less.

those 2 fans will not cool as well as the factory fan. i have that fan on a monte ss making about 350 hp with a 350 v8 and i took the resistor out so the fan runs full speed all the time. i tried the small dual fans with no luck, also tried 2 other fans on a 71 nova and they didn't work. we put factory gn fans on both cars with no problems.

The right Spal dual fans significantly outcool any setup..... almost 3000 cfm which is way beyond most other setups. Ask the Texas guys running a/c during the summer :-)

Do yourself a favor:

1) buy the Ramchargers unit for $89 or whatever it is now
2) contact Cal Hartline and get the dual Spal setup with connectors and everything for around $300. Plug and play

Anything else is going to cost you time, money and aggravation IMHO....

FWIW, I have/had stock, single and dual Spal fans...

ok then, just speaking from experience on my cars. haven't had any cooling problems with the little v6.

Mark,
It sounds like you are recommending two different things. Are you saying to go with the Ramchargers duel fan setup or the Spal duel fan setup?

Thanks,
Jay

I'm saying it depends on how much you want to spend :-)

I think the Ramchargers unit is an excellent value for the price.
One of the best part/values out there for our cars.
I also honestly believe that the Spal unit has to be better, but I agree with many... hard to justify $200 more!

You can buy the Spal unit on your own, then buy the connector from John Spina (Casper's Electronics), then figure out how to mount it by buying or making brackets. Cal Hartline has done this for you... might was well benefit from it and it will usually end up being cheaper.

Boxing in the radiator area, sealing the stock fan to the radiator and jumpering the wire to run hi-speed all the time works just fine for many TR owners. If you need some more CFM, then the dual setups are the ticket.

BTW - some of the TTA guys have tried mounting "pusher" fans in front of their front-mount I/C's since they get no airflow through the nose.... Mixed results from what I heard.... I'm going to try it..

Mark,
Do you have a number, email or website of this guy Cal Hartline? Would like to go with the Spal setup.

Thanks,
Jay

Ramchargers has the best bang for the buck. Lowered my temps 10 to 15 degrees during the mid summer months and it gets pretty hot here.

Ramchargers fans here and one of Nick Micale's high flow cores csr runs ice cold. That never happens here in AZ.

I may have missed this part, but do you currently have cooling problems? If so how hot is you engine running? I had the stock fan on my car and it seemed like it was on its last leg being that there was weird noises coming from it. I also noticed my engine temps were in the 190's. I replaced with the RC dual fans and now the I stay at 170 all day in 85 degree weather. Haven't tried in 90 degree weather, but I'm betting I will still have a cool running motor. The total bill was 89 for the fans and 20 for the wiring harness.

Amen! I'd probably have gone with the Ramcharger fan setup *if* my core would have supported it (27"), but since I only had 24" (corvette radiator), the dual SPAL unit was perfect for me. BTW, mine runs 165° with A/C and a front mount in 95° heat and 90% + humidty. :D
