My fasten seatbelt light in the cluster turns on and off alot when driving down the road, seams to come on alot when I hit a bump in the road. I unplugged the seatbelt wiring under the seat but it seams to have no effect on it . If anyone has seen this problem before or knows the fix, chime in and give me some options.

you'll probably need to replace your chime module under the dash. controls your headlights on warning chime also. It is located just to the left of your radio, up under the dash. Black box about the size of a pack of cigarettes. not an easy place to get to with your hands.

thanx for the input, that does sound like a good start becouse it does chime when the light comes on.

My chime sounds very sick and old. Is it a part you can find at the local store?

funny because when i unplugged my wire under the seat i haven't heard the chime since...my car used to do the same exact thing...wonder why yours still chimes??? i took out the bulb in the dash for the fasten seat belt idiot light too:D ;)

My car does the same thing! I also unplugged the plug under the seat and it made no effect on it. I hit a bump or bang the steering wheel and it does it. Someone was in my car and thought it was like the new cars were the belt light comes on and stays on until you plug the seat belt in :) Mine chime don't go off to much and when it does it sounds sick so I just left it for now. Sounds like I'm not gonna bother unless I'm under the dash and board :)

sound like phillyturbosix and I have the same problem, Happy to know Its just not my car. I would think this is one of those common problems with a easy fix. I'm going to start with the chime module( atleast inspecting it ) so I'll keep you guys in need posted if I find anything.

it can't be anything else but the chime really so replace that and the problem should go away

same problem here on a very low milage car.......nice to hear I'm not alone.

Yeah, my car has less than 21,000 on it but some of the problems I've encountered are from sitting in the garage.

Mine started doing this at about 25k miles 7 or 8 years ago. The light will come on even when the belt is fastened, and it will chime liek once then choke.

The GM part# for the chime box is 25524794 I've had it written down on my desk notepad for years but never replaced it..the last time I had the dash apart to install something I just took the light out and cut the wire going to the chime box.

GM part #25524794

that part # was a huge time saver, so thanx. I'm going to order one. GM parts direct has it listed for under $30. to me thats a cheap fix for a anoying problem.

Being your getting it and putting it in, let us know how it goes getting it out and putting the new one in. Where it's mounted and what tools you needed to get it out.. Try to take a pic or 2 if you can! I was also thinking about ordering one. It is something that can make you nuts after while! Thanks! :)

Easy fixins

Definatly a cheap and easy fix for such an annoying problem. got my chime module today and had it installed in about 20 min. its mounted to the drivers side of the stereo cluster, so you need to remove the black cover from under the steering column around the foot controls and the one directly below the column that is the color of you dash for easeir access, mouted with 7mm screws and one 10mm nut. (once the panels are removed turn the park lamps on to track down the sick noise coming from the old module) the only thing holding the module in is a little tab on top that hooks a little nipple, take a lttle flat head and gently pry the tab up and pull the module off the connector, then plug the new one in and your golden!:) I didn't get the chance to road test mine but the chime doesn't sound sick anymore and it works with the ignition which it never did before. I pluged my seatbelt back in and banged on the column and it seems to be good. I have digital photos but I don't know how to put them on here so if someone needs them still let me know. I'm just a dumb Bodyman and no good with computers;)

Update!

Well guys I finally got around to putting the chime module in. I must say it is a bastard to get up under there mainly to see where you plug it back in but the bells ring properly again! No more Fasten Seat belt light coming on and chimes ringing out of no where for no reason and sounding sick!! :) I also noticed that mine only had one chime. I didn't know there is a faster chime for headlights on as to key in ign. chime! It's a wonderful thing how the smallest stupid things make the car run that much better! Thanks to JP87GN for sending me those pics of the how to steps. Made it a no brainer! Now back to work on the more serious things!

No Problemo! I'm sure glad I fixed that little problem, it was starting to annoy me:mad:
