I finally got the TR out of storage after a long winter. I have a show to get ready for next weekend, so I wanted to make sure that it was going to run and drive ok. You never know with these cars.
I charged up the battery for a few hours this morning and took it out to the storage facility. The cover came off the car and I had forgotten that I had detailed it before putting it away. I always hate driving around in a dusty car because anyone that knows me knows that whatever I am in is spotless.
Anyway, I put the battery in and left the good old orange wire disconnected so I could circulate some fresh Joe Gibbs HotRod oil. After I got some good pressure, I hooked everything up and it turned over and lit up within a few seconds. That's always a plus. It is about a three mile trip home and that's all I was willing to try since the skies looked a little threatening. My car hasn't been rained on in 15 years and I didn't want to break the streak.
It's always funny with this car. It acts like a tired old grandpa getting up from a long nap, creaking and groaning and then it seems to settle in and run like a champ. Maybe that's all in my head. When you get your car out for another summer of fun, it's always an event for a car guy. It makes you appreciate the work you did in the fall to ensure a pleasant experience getting it running in the spring. All I really have to do is clean it up a little bit, wax it and put on my new wastegate actuator. Then, it's show time!
