I'm on the search for the original dealer that ordered my car in 87. Just wondering if you guys have any more clues to help me other then what I've found. Every door I open leads no where. Here is were I'm at as of now..
=Checked under rear seat and passenger door panel for build sheet and found nothing in those locations. Could there be a sheet somewhere else?
=Called Buick nothing other then they told me I have a recall on my brake system! I had to put the phone down and laff my ass off when I heard that one! But he said there is a current recall on my brake system! Might have to take it in to the dealer for that! :)
=Checked all the web sites I could find for that info and nothing.
=Called a local Buick dealer and the service dept. told me if my car was ever there, they could tell me by checking the computer. But it would only show if my car was in there for service at sometime.

I think it came from a dealer in upstate NY somewhere. Maybe around Syracuse? Figure I'd post here and see if I might have missed anything. Thanks in advance for any more clues! Maybe someday I'll figure this out!

Jim,

GOOD LUCK!

I tried to find what dealer my 84 GN came from, and I came up with nothing. Your best bet is to call the owner before you, and see if he has the persons name who he bought it off of. You might be able to get lucky and follow the 'Owner Tree' as far back as the original owner. I tried doing this with my 84, but having 7 owners since 1998 was too many to find.

IMO....If Buick had a historical division like Pontiac does, it would make the job of finding production numbers, dealers, and car 'numbers' MUCH easier!

The GM warranty info system could tell you, but your car is too old. The original invoice has that info, but you can't have it, classified information on it per GM legal. Sorry, no more ideas.

I followed the owner tree on my car by doing a title search on it thru NY where it came from. I found the 2nd owner and called him and talked to him for several hours after freaking him out when he found out his old car was still around. The 2nd owner didn't really know the first owner. Saw a ad in a paper in 1990 and bought it. He then floated the title to the next 2 owners who only had it for a short time. The car sat in a garage for over 11 years with the front off because a tree fell on it. Actually totalled the car but Car Fax missed that! That's why I posted here.. so close but yet so far away....

Check for the build sheet behind the driver's side door panel.

Good Luck!

Ed

There's one behind the drivers door panel? Someone told me under back seat and passenger door panel are the only 2 places the build sheet is. Did you find yours behind the driver's door? let me know! thanks

Jim,

Pull your driver side lower door panel off (the one with the armrest), and usually they are taped to the lower door panel, or the door.

If you need help let me know...maybe I can swing by a day this week.

Broadcast sheet

Jim,

Pull the driver's side door panal, that's where I found mine.....
Let us know what you come up with.

James :D

Sweet! I'll pull that bad boy tomorrow! :)

Guys, I got lucky. I know of every owner of my WH-1. I have the original window sticker (its framed), and the build sheet; and the body order sheet. Both of these and the RPO sticker have been signed; if that matters at all. I know the miles at original delivery, and the original owners name.

Just my .02

Too bad your car isn't Canadian. Both of mine are and they are highly documented. GM Canada maintains detailed documentation forever...

i found mine on my window sticker ;)

but if your serious i can *probably* get you a complete spec sheet from GM sent to you with the Date of Birth and ship date, aswell as dealer name

Wow thanks! That would be awesome! I sent you a e-mail with my info on the car! :)

Some of you guys make me sick! :) :p I wish it was that easy for me! :( I took the drivers side door panel off this morning and nothing there either. So hopefully arista5 can do some magic for me! I'll keep you guys up to date!

strikeeagle: I'm part Canadian go figure! Should have bought a GN when I moved here! I use to live in Mississauga. I come back a lot maybe one time I'll bring the GN up!

arista5 or Mike I think it is... THANKS THANKS!! You have helped me answer all my questions about my car! :) I can't thank you enough. I called GM Canada and they transfered me a few times and I got a woman who took all my information about my car. I use to live in Canada and when talking to her found out she lives where I use to live (Mississauga) so maybe that credit was on my side as well! :) It was $48.15 CAD for this service of tracking down all the info on my car (for finding the info I want that was cheap!) They said they would search the files in Canada first and if nothing came up they would request them from GM in the states. Well they did and today I got in the mail a huge awesome packet on all the specs' of my car! It was sold at Regal Buick Inc in Syracuse, NY and built on Sept. 18th 1987. Also shipped that day. Something I thought I'd never find! Now I'm off to Staples to have it lamiated so I can put it in my window at the next car show! :) Sometimes the stupid small things mean so much with these cars! They broke down all the option codes it came with, spec sheets on the 87 GN's and tons of other really cool information! Was worth every penny of it! Thanks again for replying to my post, helping me out, and giving me that link to make this happen! All this drama I'm having with my car it's nice to get some good news and have something work my way for once! Hats off to you for posting a reply and helping another GN owner out!! :)

 glad i could be of help to you. :cool

if you need anything else please ask, i also have multiples of all books located in your glovebox if you need anything.

:D

Interesting. Glad you were successful.

So what phone numbers and what offices did you call for this info? Email or office addresses? I just may want to track down the original information about my GN too. Might be something worth having...even if it costs a few bucks.

Mike

Just go to www.gmcanada.com and look for some contact numbers.. Give them a call and tell them you have a older car you are trying to get information on. They will transfer you around and you'll get the old record dept. Just tell them your not sure if your car was built in Canada or not. Then they will search Canada files and then request the info from GM in the US and get it. I did try contacting GM here in the US and all they told me was there was a current recall on my car for the braking system!! LOL I still want to take my car to the dealer one day soon and tell them I'm here for my recall! :) They really send you a nice packed of info on GN's in general plus all the goodies on your car. Money well spent! Now I can put these in the window of my car at shows to teach others about the GN's and even tho they were all black.. very different! :)

Found Something cool

Found something pretty neat this weekend!

Was putting some rear seat braces in and found this on the back of the driver side seat! All along I thought it was under the back seat. But it was on the back part of it! Also found a magizine lable from 87 with the original owners name on it! Must have fell off a magizine and slipped behind the seat from the trunk! Of course the guy is unlisted but I'm still trying to hunt him down. Funny how you could know nothing about a car and within a few weeks you know it all! :) Here is a scan of what GM sent me on my car via GM Canada!
