I had a ticking coming from harmonic balancer area and it was suggested I readjust the crank sensor. I did and all was well. I did notice however on the startup that the cam sensor was ticking (typical) and it went away as it warmed up (again, typical) Could the cam sensor be the root of my knocking/slapping/tapping when free revved fully warm from 1500-2500 or so and at the top of each gear under light load? I know they only usually make noise when cold and become quieter when warm, but could something else be wrong with it to make that noise? Thanks and any suggestions/help is appreciated!

Mine did the same thing.I changed the timing chain to a double roller and bought new Gm tensioners and the noise was gone.

You might try to tighten the cam sensor hold down bolts and see if that helps. If you have a cam sensor tool that you can reset it with, just pull it out and see if there's any play in the shaft. It could be worn if it's the original. They are still available through GM..I think. But it's worth a shot. Good Luck!!
