The frame on my T is notched. Does anyone have good photos or details of what they did to brace the frame in the back? The car does have a 6pt cage already.

Thanks

Since there are no suspension pieces connected behind your notched frame there doesn't need to be a lot of bracing. I would make one brace simply across the frame rails just behind the notch so they are tied together (if you can) and there should be the original frame brace back by the bumper. Along with the cage this should tie things together good.

Thanks! I was just worried that taking all that metal out of the frame could result in bad stuff happening out back on a good launch.

The back part of the frame supports some body weight, through the rear body mounts. (number 6 and number 7 mounts) And the number 5 mounts, if you added them. It's true there are no suspension attachments behind the axle, but there are still loads into the frame, so reinforcing it is a good idea. Generally, when someone notches the frame, they weld in plate reinforcements at the notch, but that's about all. Don't know if that's enough, but it seems to work.

You don't have to reinforce it but it does need support from the roll cage. Your rear bars from the cage better tie into the frame or on top of the spring mount. The cage will support the stress put on that area during launch. If not you will have serious issues on launch...like warping the quarter panels.

I also welded in a wolfe sway bar and put another bar between the frame rails right behind the shock to tie both sides together. Another good idea is to use the HRparts bracing kit for your front lower control arms mount. I have seen the GN's shove this mount into the floorboard.

Dusty thanks for your input

No problem. FWIW when I notched the frame I boxed it back in with 1/8" plate to add some strength back to it.

When you leave the spring is pushing up on the frame. That's why it's very important for the roll cage to tie into the frame somewhere close to the spring.

Thanks. I will have to get under the car and see where everything is tied together.

I used 1/4 plate steel to box the frame back up. Yes its over kill but i wanted to make the area stronger than factory. Back then my roll bars rear bars hit right infront of the notch area. Now with the cage they further back and right on the frame hump.

When the body was off the frame on my car it was really weak. So I did this to help out. Then again you might not have coil over shocks and a cage to tie into. ;)

This is how we will be bracing the "G" body i'm working on.we are actually using the coilover crossmember as a crossmember to brace the frame. And adding another crossmember back by the rear bumper.

We notched right to the back frame rail behind the tire and used a
3/16" plate. Wanted to tie in the control arm pockets. Here is what we ended up with.

Hey Chris,

Are those the Edlebrock support braces for the control arms?

Thanks!

Nice pictures Chris. What size rim (width and backspacing) is on the car and what size tire?

WHITE T think they were hotchkis but had them a long time. Edlebrocks look nice.

SPOT MY 6 still working on the frame need to get the wheel wells done to order rims and tires. Looks like a W tire would fit, but probably going to use a MT or Hoosier 29.5"/10.5" on a 10" rim with 5.5" bs if bogart can do any bs I may adjust to get the bulge flush with the lip.

28"/11.5" they have 13.1" sec on 10" rim with 4" bs. They will not fit . With this bs stick out the wheel well by about 1-3/8"
