It's time to replace the front pads on my 87 T, what is the consenus on what pads to use for a street/strip car for good stopping power, my car sees about 2-3000 miles yearly, thanks
for all info, Ron

I would like to know this as well. I eat through about 2 or 3 sets of pads a year. It is all thous 100+ - 0 mph stops;) ;) ;)

Thanks,
Jason

Personally, I like the cheap, non-metalic, 1 year warrantee pads from Pep Boys. They seem to have the best stopping/holding power, and are the quietest. The semi-metalic will last longer, but will wear out the rotors faster, and don't stop as well, IMO.

I'm using Ceramix pads on my GN from NAPA. No brake dust and they stop great. Even put them on my Blazer. About $70.

I agree with warpspeed, the cheapest, non-metallic ones seem to do a good job. I don't like semi-metallic because they seem to eat the rotor. Just replaced mine over the weekend, $16 from Checker, had to replace a caliper too, it was less than the pads:eek:

Boosted GN, those pads from NAPA will they eat rotors or is that the price you pay to stop well and get no dust? Ron

I just put on a set of carbon metalic pads from Autozone and so far I like them . They were $27 and come with a lifetime warrantee so no more money for pads for me. :D

Ditto, just did those pads and new rotors on the ttype....no squeeky, good stoppy:D:D :D

I also have the pads from NAPA on my GN and both of my daily drivers. Excellent pads, aprox 40,000 miles on my truck and wifes car and no noticable rotor wear. They stop great and low dust.

I will go with the ceremix from napa, 58.00 and lifetime warranty, we will see what they will do the rotors!, Ron

Performance friction z rated here. They stop ok when cold but MAN do they stop better when warmed up! I had to get used to this when I first got them. Basically, you press the pedal and you slow down right? If you are going at anything above 25 mph, you press the pedal and you slow down then have to let off the pedal as the pads build heat cause they start to GRAB as they warm up.

I have never used brakes as good as these in all of my years of driving and I have had cross drilled rotors and "performance" Pep Boy pads. If you can deal with the pads when they are cold you will love them wen they are hot.

I also have the Perf. Friction Z pads and so far so good. Only a couple hundred miles on the combo so far and no heavy use yet, but they feel good. I can also recommend Porterfield R4-S pads, probably the best brake pads I've ever used. They will transform your car. Designed for street and road race use, they stop great cold as well as hot:

www.porterfield-brakes.com

The PFZs came with the 12" brake kit I bought from Robert Adams, otherwise I would have gone with Porterfield. Porterfield also makes a a rear shoe set to fit our cars, and I went with those on mine.

Keep in mind, both of these pads are expensive compared to most parts store models, but the extra stopping power is worth the money, in my opinion.

Raybestos Quiet Stop. Effective, quiet, don't tear up rotors and very little dust. Most of the pads mentioned previously are rotor hell and dust city...

:D

I have those also. Awsome stopping power and practically no dust.

Why not put the cross drilled rotors from Napa on while you are at it. I did the pads and rotors and can actually stop now. Ask them for a good price on a package deal.

How much did those cross-drilled rotors set you back? Can you really tell a differance?

Can you really tell a differance?

Not sure if its the pads or the rotors but yes I can feel a major difference. The pads and rotors came out to $240. You should get new bearings while your at it ($10).
