I have a lot of trouble getting a full tank of gas in my GN. When it gets up near 3/4 full, the gas nozzle on the pump kicks out, as if it had a full tank already. I have to go really slow after that to get it to accept gas without shutting off the nozzle.

Any ideas what might cause that? It almost seems like there is a restriction in the filler neck or the vent or something similar, but this is my first G-body, so I want to make sure I'm on the right track before I start dropping the fuel tank or somesuch...

It has something to do with the vapor shutoff mechanism. The nozzle will automatically shut off even when the tank isn't full because it senses too many vapors.

The problem is common on all TRs. I can't even let it go on autofill at all, I have to manually do it and even then I only can get it to fill to about 15 gallons.

Well, if it's a common problem, and not a specific defect with my car, then I'll have to see what I can do about solving it, and maybe coming up with a product to sell to other owners :)

The odd thing is, the very first time I filled the tank after I bought the car, it gave me no trouble, and went right up to the top. But if this is a common problem, then maybe it was just an issue with that particular gas pump not being as sensitive as they normally are.

i work at a gas station on weekends, its not just a tr problem, when i fill my gn up i have it so the nozzle is just in the filler neck by like a quarter inch, then hold the trigge 3/4 of the way, sometimes i can stick my cap between the trigger and the handle and it works, hope this helps

i also have problems with my GN at the pumps. i cant get a full tank a gas. and it is impossible for me to put the nozzle all the way in and pull trigger up all the way. it will click out in a few seconds as if it were full even if my tank is bone dry. i have always had to have the nozzle at the perfect angle and to only pull the trigger a little more than 3/4 of the way for me to even get gas into the tank. its very annoying

The definitive thread on this subject is on the "other" board.
