I was driving along and checked my fuel guage and the needle was buried to the far right ahead of Full.

WHen I got home I tried jiggling some wires in the truck and the fuel sender connector. Fuel pump continued to run, no change with the Fuel guage.

When I shut the car off, the Fuel guage returned to the far left of Empty. When I turned the key On, but didn't start the car the needle moved to the approxiamate point of how much gas I have. Upon starting the car the needle moved forward past the Full mark.

Any ideas?

I'll measure the Ohm-reading out of the sender and check to see if I have 12vdc in a lil bit, but figured I'd ask the question and see if anyone else has had this happen and narrowed down a quick fix.

thanks,

I had this problem once in an old el camino i once had. Turned out to be a bad ground from the sending unit. I dont know where this ground is on a GN but try checking it out from a wiring schematic.
It should be to the frame somewhere.

Happens to me occasionally. Mine has always been the connections behind the gauge cluster where they slip into the contacts. Usually just loosening the 7mm bolts that hold the cluster in place and repositioning the gauges will correct the prob.

Not sure why, but my GN has done it since it was a year old. Usually if I rap the plastic in front of the gauge with my knuckles, it will drop down and read right. Might be the connections behind it getting jarred...

Double check the wires at the tank. My TTA did the same thing. Open wire, or 0 ground / no resistance gives a full reading. My pump ran fine as well. After fishing around I figured out the pin in the wiring harness weather pack connector leading to the tank that sent the signal to the dash had a bad connection. The other 2 pins, pump Pos (+) and ground, where just fins, thus the pump ran.

got back in the car a few minutes later... all is well.

I also noticed the fuel pump positive wire was hot after me driving 45 miles.

I'm gonna get me another sender and upgrade all the wiring for the pump for 10ga.

As for my fuel sender, I'll clean and use some dielectric grease on it.

thanks,

Dan, I have been having similar issues with mine since I have had the car. Sometimes the gauge works perfectly. Other times the needle will stop at the half way mark. That has caused me to run out of gas a few times. No I learn to pay attention to the odometer and the fuel pressure gauge. Whenthe fuel pressure starts to dive when breaking, I know its time to fill up. BUt I never did figure out what was wrong with it. I just figured the sender in the tank was going senile.
