Fuel pump hot wire problem

I've got a Red's fuel pump booster hot wire, but sometimes it won't seem to work, then i disconnect it, hook it up,the original way,bypassing the hot wire .and the car always starts.. the ground is good,and the relay clicks,but seems the connector between the relay and the tank,is intermintent....guesses?
