Okay, I already know that I should use the search function, but I'm new, so I get to be lazy for the first 20 posts lol....

I've just purchased an 87 GN, and it has a 9" with 3.70 gears in it. I've been told by some that its fine, some say its a good thing, and some say its a bad thing....The car is gonna be used for daily driver use, with a lil race time as well.

Questions, Comments, Complaints?

Thanks,

Depends on what kind of rear and motor you have.

If you have a cam and can rev. a bit higher WOT it may be just fine excepting slightly worse gas mileage.

Assuming it isn't a spool of course.

Depends on what ya got?

If your using the 9" Ford housing as I do in all my Hybrid Camaro's We tried the 3:89 Gears and found trap RPM's to be pushing 6000rpm with a 28" rear tire...

We switched to a 3:50 gear and picked up 3mph and did not loose any 60' time.. it stayed at 1.48-1.50 consistantly.

You don't have too many choices with the 9" housing for gears unless you want factory ford gears that are 500.00 a set.

I'd switch to a 3:50 gear when you can... Not a emergency .. just somthing to take care of when time and money permit.. It'll be faster and better on gas than it is now...

Good rear end though :)
