#1. Is there a so-called OEM kit for converting an 87 GN to R134a? Has anyone used a aftermarket kit with good results? How much does it generally cost to convert?

#2. Is there a CD player that will fit the GN and LOOK STOCK. Everything I've seen on crutchfield totally does not fit my interior. A look at some late model Delco units on eBay revealed decent prices and good looking units that should fit... with some wiring hanky-panky. Has anyone installed late model delco?

#3. Who makes good chips for 36-lb injectors? I want rich idle, lean cruise. My current chip is an antique.

I converted to 134a but it did not cool very well. I then switched to Freeze12 and it feels as good as R-12. It is also a drop-in so you don't have to change oil to use it. It can also be mixed with R-12 so you can just top off your existing charge if it's low.

I have a Delco CD player from 2000 S10 that fits and looks real nice. I was hoping for a black one but they dont make black. Its a "dark charchoal grey"
Any one that you see with the mounting tabs on the sides will get you close for mounting. You do have to snip one of the tabs for the radio bezel, but no big deal. Get the wiring adapter if you go this route, makes it alot easier...

probably any of the chipmakers can take care of you..

I've heard too many horror stories about 134.
1970gsx has said it well.

I converted to 134a and it sucks. Did the whole nine yards, including a new compressor. Where do you get the freeze12?

I bought it at a local, small independent auto parts place. The chains don't seem to carry it. Just call around to the smaller type auto stores in your area. You'll need to buy the adapters for the high and low side fittings and the supply hose. I bought 6 cans and the adapters and hose for about $50.

I converted to 134 last year. I changed the lines, compressor, and evaporator. It's been working fine so far. Even with untinted windows, my car is nice and cool! Correction: I should say that It's "cool enough for me"!

I just did a recharge with 134 and I'm really surprised how cold it gets. Not quite like r-12 but very close. None of the new cars (134 based AC) cool like r-12 either so I think it is as good as any new car.
#1 important thing to do (especially on an old car) is to change out the drier. After a few years they lose their ability to dry the air and that means poor cooling effect. Important to do a full evac too. New oil, 2.6 pounds of 134...worked for me.

Now if I could get my blower to actually BLOW some air, I'd really be happy.

If you want to see a factory looking cd player just ask qwknuf6 (Mark Wallace). He lives between Verdigris and Claremore off of I-44. You can pm him or contact him on the Oklahoma board.
