I still have to send a slew of engine parts to the powder coater and buy my dump pipe, stretched I/C, and fuel pump stuff, but I have the rest.

Set-Up
-87 engine
-204/214 cam
-stock heads
-TA-49
-30 lb injectors (couldn't pass the deal up, will update later if need be)
-upgraded fuel pump, hot wire, adj fuel reg.
-stock headers
-3 inch Gbodyparts dump pipe
-2.5 inch Hooker exhaust
-23 row gbodyparts stock location I/C
-chip, I have yet to get burned since it's still unassembled. :D
-10" 2800 stall

**figure 17lbs of boost, or as much as possible, until I get an alcohol injection kit.

Looks very promising. Only thing I see missing is one of the most important pieces to the puzzle that there could be and should be at the top of the list.
Scantool like a Scanmaster.
Looks like an easy mid - low 12 second combo on pump gas with traction and low 12's on alky. The 30#ers are the only limiting factor as far as amount of boost you will be able to run on race gas and no alky, or if you ever want to upgrade the turbo in the future. The alky will definitely help with the fueling and higher than 17#s, and with your combo, typically you should be able to run 18-19psi on straight 93 octane with a good chip. Couple of other things. What about valve springs on heads? Is this a complete rebuild on the motor with all new parts? If not, what is the condition of the timing chain? You say stock headers, have you checked them for cracks and or addressed any issues with them?
Looks good tho, it's gonna be fun for sure.

Just my O2's worth.

50,000 mile engine, brand new cam, lifters, double roller, high volume front cover and oil pump, heads have never been off. I'm pulling the headers off this weekend and going to give them a once over and get them coated. My goal is only mid to low 12's, but a lot of us have said that.............at first. :D

Even tho 50k miles on the motor, I'd still replace the valve springs if they've been installed on the head since 87. I'd even consider replacing the rocker arm assemblies with the Heavy Duty rocker shaft from Sealed Power.
Looks like you'd easily hit your goals with a set of drag radials.

The more I think about it, the more I realize I should put in the Hi-po valve springs and new valve seals while I have the engine out, good call. Being over budget already will push the rocker arm assemblies down the road aways. My wife saw my budget lay out and her eyes about jumped out of her head.

280 RWHP, 13.0 on slicks.

17psi. ain't much. :(

At least run some 100 unleaded at the track and try to meet your goals, start at 17psi. and work your way up.

The cam and turbo and 23 row are worth 60-80 hp, with the stock heads. The injectors are not any different than stock ( OEM 28# ), and will only support 350 maxed. I agree with Salvage- 13.00 with a good motor tune, and suspension really working. Your going to need 1.50 60 fts. and good gas. Brian

Baby steps I guess. My stock injectors are completely wasted, the 30's were dirt cheap and mint, so I grabbed them. What is limiting me to 13's in your mind? Where is my weak link?

Boost level without alky or at least 100oct. ;)

You probably have a high 12 in that combo, but everything needs to right on. If it were my car, I'd loose the injectors, and go with 55's or 60's, put in some race gas/alky, and turn up the boost until you find the weak link ( your 200r4 ).

injectors and alky

I would strongly agree with fuely, your injectors would be limiting. In my opinion, dollar for dollar, a kit from razor would be your best go fast goodie!! I don't even mess with race gas. I like to tune at the track the way (minus slicks) I like to kill cobra's on the street!! When you run 25psi all the time they never even see what hit em. By the way, I also thought anything 12's would be awsome. This damn car is like a drug habbit for me. I hit 12.99's reset the bar to 125's. After that it was 11.99, then, low 11's. Now I think I'm getting close to low 10's or high 9's or maybe even a divorce!!! Get my point? I too am getting antsy to see what my new combo will do.

Yeah, I forgot how darned addicting messing with these cars are, and to think, I almost bought a Harley.

There will be no race gas, I'll get the alcohol kit and see where I am at. Of course I have a lot of work ahead of me until then. All I need is about 3 days of uninterupted work time when I get the parts back, but with a 2.5 year old daughter and a 1 year old son that is difficult.

I'd run the tank almost dry going to the track the first time and then run some 100 unleaded in it, 5-6 gallons should do fine, most tracks have it available or you can get a plastic 5 gallon jug and bring your own.

Especially with a new combo. and al,l racing it the first time.

Then if you aren't satisfied with 17 lbs. boost you probably could get up to 22 or so with a street fuel chip and it's relatively low timing.

It will allow you to do something at the track tuning wise to go faster since you won't be totally limited in tuning by your 93 octane gas.

Assuming you have a good chip for those injectors.....

You could do the DIY alky. kit also and save a ton of money.

:There will be no race gas, I'll get the alcohol kit and see where I am at.

Keep it simple. Forget the alky for now, and get dialed in on good gas. When your satisfied, install your alky, re-chip and retune. One step at a time. Brian
