I got my 87 GN today, its my first intercooled TR and I have a question.

The guy that owned it before me had it serviced at Buick its entire life. What puzzles me is that it has a stock appearing NA Regal exhaust on it (one tip) and it feels extremely restrictive. My buddy offered me his SLP loudmouth setup from his Grand Prix GTP. We could just weld it into place but the mufflers are just straight through.

Would this be an issue for the turbo just running no exhaust or a loud mouth?

The car would love it...I personnally can't stand the way V6's with exhaust sound I want the quitest exhuast I can find that will still take me as quick as I want to go.

If you don't care about the noise then no mufflers is the way to go...Just don't get flowmasters or any baffeled mufflers turbos don't seem to like them, they like straight through mufflers.

LOL, wow you're faster then me..It took me a week to take something apart on mine.

Does it have a cat??? Gut it while you're there, the stock cat SUCKS!!! Do you have emissions there?? if so wait on the exhaust and gut the cat and do the exhaust at the same time....HUGE difference.

Brother inlaw with full race shop in his 5 car garage = fast work :D

No emissions in Minnesota. We ranked in the top five for clean air so they yanked the program.

How do I get around the codes that will come up when I gut the cat?

There are none...OBD-1 doesn't have that crap.

Test pipes are better, but gutting the cat is fweeeeeeeeee. Are you sure it's NA exhaust? There are single shot performance exhausts out there. What's the diameter?

You can buy a Hooker kit for $300...cat back. I love mine.

The exhaust is crap. Its as quiet as my 86 NA Regal was and I can just feel it restricting the power. I am going to take it to my friends exhaust shop on Tuesday and see what he can do. That way, if something breaks I know I didnt do something stupid.

If your asking if a system from a FWD grand prix will work on a GN, the answer is NO. Go with a Hooker cat cack for les the $300 delivered. You won't be sorry

your best bet would be to go with the hooker exhaust and a dump pipe like alllready stated. truyst me, with a loud exhaust the drown will kill you in no time. been there, done that.:D

Right on, I will look into the hooker set up.

Thanks for the advice.

Jegs and Summit both have the hooker system around 300 delivered.
