Mark Thomas. Goes by puddin here.

Engine has a miss an I just can't for the life of me find it. I've tried everything!!!!!

I'm hoping there is a professional shop near here with GN experience, with tools like an oscillloscope, etc. But I will travel if I need to. This GN has everything change from a known good running GN, and a lot of items replaced with new.

Is it a dead miss all the time? Intermittent? like a bad injector or a bad wire in the injector harness keeping an injector from firing?

I would say it was all the time, but every now and then it may go away for a few seconds (20 to 25), but touch the throttle or let off the throttle or start up a hill, it is there. We have tried other injectors. Yes, at idle, standing beside the car, it is a dead miss, and I believe it is coming from #4 cyl. mainly, but #6 may be more intermittent. Compression and leak down test show both cyls. (and all other cyls.) to be fine.

Check your plug wires out or it could be coil pack Scott W is in Knoxville very good along with Turbo Dave

Thanks xcessiv. Three sets of plug wires, three different coil pack/ ignition modules, one off a known good running GN, all tested with the test unit you can get from one of the Buick supliers, can't remember which one just now. Four sets of plugs.

Have you very carefully inspected all the wiring for each injector!!! Nothing pinched or previously pinched?

Thanks again TurboDave, I will check with the fellow who has been helping me and doing most of the work. I know he used a "noid" light some way to check the wiring or injectors, but just can't remember how he/we went about it, this has been on-going for about 5 months. I will post after I talk to him this afternoon or evening.

One additional question. What percipitated the problem? IOW, when it started, did it just happen out of the "blue", or was there work done at the time?

What computer are you using? Has the engine every been out of car? Are your battery cables stock units? Has the car every sat outside for along period of time?

Your symtems sound like a problem I had years ago. It could be a grounding issue. Let me know a little history.

Thanks again TurboDave and xcessiv. Car started missing a long time back, a year or more. I first noticed it while driving along at 45 to 50 mph with the cruise set. No work had been done that made it start happening. Car does set outside. Engine has never been out, nor have the heads been off, but a new timing chain has been installed, but car started missing before the chain was installed. Stock computer and battery cables. Car was down on power but I went to the drag strip with a couple of my friends last year. Car ran so poorly I knew I had to do something. Car had run 8.0 1/8and 12.4 @ 114 1/4a couple of years ago. Turbo (TE-44) was bad so that was part of the problem, but we have never been able to get the miss out of it. Car has 042 injectors, Terry Houston DP, stretch intercooler, Club red stripe converter, 180,000 miles. The fellow who has been helping me checked the injector harness with the "noid" light and said that all of the wiring checked good. Each of the wires was making the "noid" light flash in a normal pattern. There has not been anything done to the car where the wires would have been involved. My friend did remember that when he changed the turbo one time he forgot to re-connect the battery grd. cable, but the car started but didn't run "right". After he put the cable back on the car ran like it had before with the miss.

What chip? Do you have anykind of scantool to monitor data points, such as O2, etc.?

My bet you have an intermittent ground problem or a wire in the harness going to the coil pak. I would put an extra ground to the engine and the frame, make sure the connection are ground down to the metal to get get good contact.

Thanks again TurboDave and xcessiv. Red's 93 chip but we have tried others. I have the OTC 4000. We did put a replacement end (about one foot of wire) on the ignition module wiring harness about 2 or 3 months ago, car had trouble years ago with that connection. I'm positive the fellow helping me has put extra grounds on the engine at times to see if it helped, but I'll check. Thanks again.

Hi,

Has your freind tried a known good working computer?

Has the car ever had a new cam?
Has the car ever had new valve springs?

We need a complete list of EVERYTHING that has been done to the car, everything else we will consider stock.

I looked back at some of your threads and seen that you have had electrical issues for quite some time.

To evaluate your car better it is always better to see the car in person. If you feel like having Turbo Dave or I look at your car we would be more than happy to. Just let one of us know..

If I can help I will...

Scot W.
