Can somebody give me some ideas on this recent problem I've
developed? Here's the story:
I installed a progressive alky kit this year and had my MaxEffort
chip reprogrammed for alky. Ever since these changes the car
appears to be leaning out big time. My O2's will drop out and
the EGT skyrockets past 1800 degrees during a 3rd gear pull
after seeing normal readings in 1st and 2nd gear.
This isn't a situation where I'm "kinda lean" in 3rd, it's a drastic
drop out. O2's will go from a happy 780-800 in 1st and 2nd to a
piston melting reading below 100 in 3rd.
Before the alky I would typically run 21-22 psi boost on 116 fuel
and see EGT's solidly in the 1500 degree range with no lean out.
Let me say this, I'm not blaming the alky kit for the problem, nor
do I feel it is the cause of the problem. Too many other things
can cause a problem like this, and we all know alky can handle
way more than I'm throwing at it.
I thought maybe I was losing one of my fuel pumps, but the psi
stays steady at 65 when the problem happens.
Strangely my spark plugs are a normal tan color and show no
signs of the torture I've put them through.
Am I missing something? Where do I go from here?
TIA:)

Do this, record your run on direct scan. Look at your injector duty cycle while the run is happening.. then correllate the IDC to your egt issue.

If lets say your IDC is like 90 percent, and your running 20 lbs of boost.. the car should be really rich. If the IDC is 65% then the chip is the culprit. Just becuase you have fuel pressure doesnt mean you have fuel... unless the chip commands fuel, you cant run rich.

Your knock sensor also should indicate an issue.

Lastly, my buddy Jimmy recently was having a weird EGT issue, turned out his EGT meter was the problem.

Hi Julio, I wish I had a direct scan.
Can I backprobe an injector with my Fluke 88 to read dwell?

I turned down the boost and started over dialing it up a little at
a time until it was back to 20+ psi and 1500 on the egt.
I thought it was fixed until I took it to the track where it wacked
out again. I was fed up with it so I let it sit in the garage for a
month and took it back out today. Guess what, it's fine again...
I have an intermittent gremlin I guess, this car is killing me.

Hey its being a Buick :D

As far as the fluke deal...dunno. And you would need to record it.. cuase when your going 110 MPH.. no way to look at anything.

I would suspect fuel pump issue. Check the hot wire relay(replace) and triple check your gas tank grounds.
