ok guys the other week i noticed that on the scan tool as i got on the car the volts would drop alot. so i took out hte alternator and took it to a alt. and starter place. they looked it over and the volt regulator ended up being bad. so they fixed it and checked everything out and i was on my way. i get home and bolt in the newly fixed alternator, replace both negative and positive battery cables and get a nice new power wire going from the back of the alternator to the battery. i start the car up and i am only getting 11.5 volts from the back of the alternator. the alt. is charging just a very low amount of volts. so i figured they missed something or messed something up. i took the alternator back to them tey looked it over hooked it up to there machine and it all checked out ok and idle and with a load. i have to get a chance to put the alternator back in and go over my wiring im just curious if anyone has any ideas. the guy told me to make sure the wire going to the alternator has power in it and it does. any ideas would be great before i end up taking the whole car to them to look at. thanks

oh yeah the battery is brand new and i had that tested and recharged as well. i just put hte alternator back on now its getting 11 volts out of hte back. if i rev it up or take it for a rie and put a slight load on it hte volts do come up but not much. i guess im gonna hve to bring the whole car to them i think it is there alternator not putting out.

Volt lite must be on when the key is in on position, car not running. If not, alternator will not charge the battery.

i originally took it to this place that i just had check out the Alt. about 2 years ago. i had a wiring prob behind the dash and instead of paying ot have it all fixed they installed an external exciter on the alterantor. never had a prob till this past week with all this stuff. could the exciter be on the way out?? i thought if an alternator was not charging the car would slowly just die. i cna drive the car around and the volts will stay at 11 and jump up a little with a load on it. its at idle that im seeing low volts as low as 9.3 on the scan tool. any other ideas, thanks

belt is not slipping. i have gotten my volt number from teh scan tool, took a reading at the back of teh alt and took a reading at the battery. keep em coming guys
