Took the GN out the other night was about a mile from home stopped at a red light with my 5 year old, car stalled and would not re-start. After cranking it would idle very very rough but only for a few seconds, lots of black smoke. Had it towed home.

Prior to this I had no signs of trouble, now check engine light is on, my scan master turns on then goes blank. I attempted to jump the AB terminals on the diagnostic port to pull the codes, I get nothing, check engine light stays on, will not blink.

I can confirm that I do hear the fuel pump come on, I see 40 PSI FP on the fuel rail, there must be spark as car will run for a few seconds but very, very rough and only if I keep my foot on the gas, it will not rev past 1,200 rpms and I fumigate the street with all of the black smoke. Also sounds like there is a HUGE cam in it. I unplugged the computer to let it reset, also disconnected the MAF but no change at all. Treid to start it without MAF hooked up.

I just picked up a MAF, coil pack as well as an ignition module from a buddy to see if these are the culprits, I will change one part at a time and see.

Anyone have any ideas please, all suggestions are welcome. I was thinking possible cam position sensor, crank sensor? Am I missing something, can the ECM be fried since no codes but check engine light is on. Mods in SIG.

Thanks in advance, I'll check back tomorrow.

Sounds like a number of things but what has me confused is the SM not working.
Does the radio work?
Sounds like something electrical that might not be allowing the ECM to operate correctly.

OK guys, it's alive.

Changed MAF meters, that wasn't the problem.

Was about to swap out ignition modules then thought I need to check the ECM.

I pulled out the ECM and since I suspected this may be the problem since I had a CEL but could not pull codes. Luckily I had an emissions chip, for ****s and giggles I installed that and the car ran and fired up fine first try.

For once I got lucky and it was an easy fix, I need to order another chip, I'll contact the vendor that made the chip I had as it looks like they have a few interesting things on their site lately. While I am at it, I'll be upgrading to a new MAF and translator. Some upgrades were overdue.

Not sure why the chip just crapped out, as I had mentioned earlier I had no signs of trouble, car was running great.

Thanks to all who replied, I hope my experience helps someone.

Glad it worked out. same thing happened to me and the chip wasnt in right.
