quick question for all my buick brothers... do i need to take the motor out to change the head gasket,if i have ARP stud bolts on my heads??????????? i still have my a/c ,but i will be taking it off bythe way.....

If i take the ac off,and have clearance while the AC out, would i still have to take the motor out to change the headgasket with ARP studs?????

With the help of some local buick brothers,we will tackle the task, thanks yall

hex head studs

if you have the newer type head studs with the hex head that you can use an allen wrench to take them out. it can be done in the car....i've done mine twice:rolleyes: i bought a little allen wrench socket to take mine out...hope i don't use it much:) ..........................................................Bob

I have the arps stud bolts with hex heads. I have heard by many that the motos needs to be out because the limited clearance with the a/c components, and such, but i guess their wrong!!!,, time for the head gasket change!

It is tight with the ac. i took all the studs out of the passenger side and the 4 top studs out of the drivers side. i also bought a 3/8 drive torque wrench to torque the heads. the smaller 3/8 head was much easier than the 1/2 drive i had because it is tight but it can be done with a little patience...good luck and hope you don't get real good at it like me:) .....................Bob
