Popped a h/g at the track and am going to change them both.

Had Fel-pro 944 in it but should I put them back or go with the 1000's.

Did a search but did'nt get a definate answer.

Running Alky at 24psi.

C-16 at 25psi. at the track.

Stock heads

Mike:confused:

I used the stock GM gaskets. A good friend of mine uses stock GM gaskets in his 10 sec turbo T without any problems. If you can tune the knock out you will be in good shape. If you do get severe knock I guess it is better to replace a head gasket than a crank..piston...rod. They are sort of a safety valve:)

I agree. I use GM head gaskets as well. They've been on the car for a little over two years & never replaced. See times in sig...

With a stock bottom end, go with stock or felpro. With a studded and steel capped bottom end, go with Cometic HG's and be done with it.

Go with the GM's or the fel-pro 9441's. As stated better to replace a head gasket than a crank. Stay of the knock!!:D Frank

I've been through this as well and tried the 1000's after running the stock composite style the last two times. My experiences with the 1000's was horible. I blew one on a fresh rebuild at 15psi. Detonation was little while sorting out the tune, but nonetheless blew the drivers side. I had replaced the bolts for studs hoping that would help, but no such luck. I replaced the drivers side and not more than a week later blew the other side with C16 at the track and 20psi no detonation. I don't know if it was a bad pair of gaskets or what, but I'll never use the 1000's again. I replaced them both with a single steel shim coated with GE1000 construction adhesive (the stuff RJC sells). I've not had a problem since and have pushed it much harder than ever before with the 1000's. The stock composite or steels from my experiences have worked very well. Just my .02.
