On my 85 Hot Air GN the heat shield that is tack welded onto the drivers side header is about ready to fall off. I am going to pull it off completly this afternoon before I loose it while driving around. My question is, do I need this shield to be there? Is it protecting anything or do I not need it at all. If I need it then I will get it welded back on but if not Ill just leave it off. Please let me know. Thanks

Dusty

Dusty,

While my heat shield is NOT welded on, it looks like the purpose of this is to shield the plug wires from the immense heat emitted by the DP.

Having stated that, I was forced to remove mine as it would interfere with the larger DP. Ended up making custom plug wires that run through the turbo bracket/heat shield hole I cut. This is the ONLY way I was able to get them away form the DP.

Im not refering to the passenger side shield, I was talking about the drivers side one. The only thing I can think of that it may be protecting is the bushings in the upper A-Arm.
