I have been down in my garage all day working on my 84 GN. My passenger side head gasket is seeping water into the oil. I did a compression check and all cylinders were 145 except the rear dr side cylinder was 120. I removed all head bolts, exhaust header bolts, power steering pump, rocker arms, and the intake manifold bolts on the dr. side. I know that after all of the years the gaskets will stick the heads on these cars. I don’t want to start prying on the head and risk damaging my head. I am pretty sure I got all of the bolts to remove the head. So do you guys have any ideas.
Thanks
David

Use Dynamite......!

You could (at least I would) give it a few "love taps" with a rubber mallet. It will start (maybe) making a different noise when it starts to loosen. Maybe.

I went down and hit it with a rubber mallet and I was about to grab some dynamite and I noticed the wire that connects the engine to the firewall. I grabbed it and yanked and the head came loose. Finally!!!! :D :D Thanks for the help. I think the previous owner one change the gasket because it was a felpro. My guess is that whenever he did it he either reused the same bolts or didn’t re torque after the initial install. Will it be ok if I don’t change the intake manifold gasket? You have to remove the turbo and every thing else to get to it on an 84. I was planing on putting a little gasket sealer on both sides of the manifold gasket and reinstall the head. With the GM steel head gaskets do you have to use gaskt sealer and Can I reuse the Header gasket? I plan on taking the oil pan off and wipe it clean to try to get as mush of the oil water mixture out of the engine as possible.
Thanks Again

Hi again,

I lost track of the post. Well, the way I was taught, if you remove something and it has a gasket, get a new one! I would rather pay $20.00 for a head gasket than either blow something or warp something or have to take the head off 80 zillion times!

I would change everything that was removed even the head bolts. Unfortunately, gnttype is down there was some good info on torque-to-yield head bolts. I'd pick up a nice set of ARP's.

Gasket sealer on a head, I am not sure but I have never seen it used. Highly unlikey, I think Fel-Pro has a site you can read up on.

I feel once a gasket has been "compressed" that's it, gotta get a new one.

That's what I would do..

I used to have an '84, If this site was around in 1992, I'd still have it. It used to stall on me so I ditched it

Good Luck!!! Let me know how is goes!
