OK so I installed my new RJC boost controller valve today.... I have spent the last hour trying to set this thing up. I have it unscrewed all the way out and Im still sitting at 17lbs... I want 16 to be safe w/pump gas because I do not have any way to tell if Im knocking or not.

Also, this 17lbs creeps in each gear. 1st-2nd is 17 then in 3rd it creeps to almost 20:eek: as my speed builds...

Im thinking I just do not run enough boost to take advantage of this piece... would losening up the waste gate help any more? I dont even notice a difference in spool up... where could I have gone wrong?

You should loosen the wastegate rod so you only pull it about 1/8" to 1/4" to hook it. Now adjust the valve until you get the desired boost level.

My waste gate rod is right at 1/8... should I go tighter or looser... When I was running just off of waste gate I was running about 1/4in of pull for 16lbs of boost.

Boost controller

I run a RJC boost controller with and adjustable waste gate. I set the rod at 1/8" as the instruction states and I don't have any boost creep. I ran the vaccum line from the waste gate to the small nipple on the boost controller and the vaccum fitting on the turbo to the large side of the boost controller. I bypassed the factory waste gate solenoid but left the electical plug in tact. If I lug the engine in 3rd gear I can get a little boost but I think that is normal. Good luck with yours.

I had the same issue when installing the manual boost controller. Your wastegate rod needs to be the length of a stock rod. :)

Just a few suggestions maybe;
If the RJC hybird boost controller seems to not be responding to adjustments you might want to unscrew the top part from the bottom where you can see that it is threaded and verify that the small ceramic ball does not have any debris under it keeping it from seating, and expand the spring length while you have it apart.
If that does not resolve the boost creep, you might have to relieve the hole around the puck a little. Do not go too big on this.

If I want to adjust my boost when I get a methanol injection kit, should I just buy a manual boost controller and leave my waste gate stock?

ok, so How do I set the rod to stock length? I do not think this is a stock Waste Gate as the stock one came in a box of parts with this original turbo...

when i run mine i turn it all the way in and get 22 psi thats with an 1/8 preload on wastegate then i turn the wastegate in 3 turns to get 25 psi i get no creep!!! are you sure you have no exhaust leaks? when i turn mine all the way out i get 15 psi thats with 1/8 preload if you cant get i lower you can cut off one spring coil to relieve pressure so you still have one thread holding it on. and if that dont work you can find tiny washers and stack them in there to get it back

For a place to start, make your waste gate rod length the same as the stock rod in your box of stock parts. If you can't get it right (boost creep), call the people who sold you the controller for help. :)

The top suggestion came from RaceJace at RJC, manufacturer of the hybird boost controller, and the lower one is what Lou Czarnota recommends to do to avoid boost creep. I run about 21 lbs of boost with an adjustable wastegate and the RJC unit with no boost creep. Sorry if there was any confusion about where the suggestions originally came from.

Ok guys, weather permitting IM going to pull it off and take it apart to see whats the deal. I will expand the spring also. Im thinking I might just not have the WG set lose enough and Im trying to compensate it by unscrewing the controller too far.

becareful if you stretch the spring you will increase base boost setting

I have a stock DP on my car that is only dumped, no mods that I know of.

did it creep with the stock setup also is your puck larger than the wastegate hole. mine was a big difference with stock boost setting before install it took long to spool and wouldnt light tires up at full boost then when i installed it it would smoke tires when full boost hit. you can try to loosen up but not to much because you need tension on puck

Actually it ran great with no creep or spikes with the stock setup. Im going to play with it tomorrow before I take it in for a break job and oil change. Im thinking I just have the WG too tight still. I guess the easiest way to set it would be to hook the original equipment back up and then get the WG back down to 12lbs of boost.

Here is my plan of attack: Im going to losen the WG with the boost controller hooked up until my max boost goes down to 15lbs with the controller set all the way out. Im going to then turn up the boost on the controller to 16lbs. Im pretty sure that there will be plenty of tension on the puck because it ran 12lbs stock I think.

I honestly think I just have too much tension on the WG right now and for my boost level and turbo output it does not have enough pressure to effectively make the RJC controller work properly. Thats why Im seeing creep. As the turbo pressure builds in the lines it allows the controller to pulse faster letting more pressure into the WG than I want. I think I will get it striaghtened out in the morning...

Thanks guys!
