well i have tried to search and couldnt find similar situation, seems more problems were bad spool

my spool up is fine , just wont kick past 10lbs

i have tried 3 sol, 2 actuators

all stock stuff here

i guess possible both were bad,but not sure

i have tried shortening rod,no change, plumbing straight from turbo to actuator,no change, new lines,

first i found blown ecm fuse, helped spool, fixed up a small header leak, spools even better, just the max boost

i have a cat, but i am assuming a clogged cat would yeild some bad spool up also, what do ya think

any help would be appreciated

a plugged exhaust will kill boost and spoolup...pull the cat and try it with open exhaust

I am still willing to pull cat, i have been hesitating because the spool up seems ok, think it could still be cat if it spools decent?
Thanks

Chris,

Is the Y in the wastegate lines positioned properly?
(The restricted side to the compressor housing)

Hi Don, i have tried that a couple diff ways,i have read posts where some say restrictor towards actuator and then others toward compresor, same results

Thanks

i guess thats possible, but if i use my "seat of the pants" guage,it does not feel like any more than 10 lbs

but it couldnt hurt to get another guage on there to confirm

thanks

if it only spools to 10 lbs, check it out....you can also pull the downpipe from the turbo......and while you are at it, check that the wastegate puck is sealing......and moving

Not sure if I read you right. You did or did not check the fuse box. It sounds like the solenoid fuse is blown and the boost is just going into safe mode, not letting boost above 10 psi.

Hi Jason, that was one of the first things i had found, when i replaced it ,it helped spool me up faster, along with a couple other things that fuse fixed. but it didnt effect the max boost

thanks

Maybe the wastegate itself is weak, or the diaphram inside it is leaking.(I guess you have tried 2, but it's an easy test)
Try wiring the wastegate rod shut, and carefully get into the throttle...........it should overboost due to the puck not opening.

if you mean the boost could actually be pushing against the puck and it cant hold it, if so i havnt thought of that, otherwise i have tried with the actuator unhooked, to see if it would boost up with puck closed assuming the puck stayed closed

i will give it a shot

Thanks

well i tried it, the tension on the rod was pretty rigid, but i tried anyway, tied her up and same max boost 10 lbs

i guess the next step is too check the exhaust,

the car just feels really good down low, pulls awesome for 10lbs, it just seems if i had a restrictive exhaust it wouldnt feel this good even with the 10 lbs

hmmm
guess just have too try it

I misposted the other day. The restrictor goes to the compressor housing for sure. :)

To eliminate the hose arrange, remove the factor set up and simply run a hose from the compressor to the actuator. If you have no boost then, I would pull the maf pipe/hose and look at the compressor wheel and see if it has no play as it should. If that is okay, then I would go to the exhaust as Woody has suggested.

If it has the original converter, it has to be plugged to some degree, I would think.:)

Hi Steve , I have tried going straight to the actuator from the comp , same results, i will however check the play, i know it did have some..thats easy enough, pull the maf pipe off,

as for exhaust its defintely stock cat, weather its gutted or not or original, i am unsure..
i put the motor in this body , and the exhaust was intact when i got it,so all i can say is someone had it apart one time, long ago, it haswhat seems to be a hooker cat back,

every thing is so rusted , i will have to heat and or cut to get the 4 bolt flange apart. this is why i have been kinda hoping to look at the exhaust as a last resort..

maybe i can get thi sdone this weekend, summer is coming..10lbs feels good, but 15-17 would probably feel alot better:D

Thanks

I certainly understand that. I fought one all day last year...The next day, I cut it off! :)

Ok, Posting for we287gn.

Pulled off MAF found what looks to be fine aluminum particles mixed with oil. Looks like the stuff u would find in a bad tranny.
Sound like a dead turbo????:D
