help needed with alt wiring

hey guys
i have a 87 g/n that was somewhat rigged up with wiring . now i do not know if the plug that goes into the alt. is original or not but is has from pass. side starting with a solid brown wire next a lighter brown with black twist on it next a heavy red wire that is short and seems as a jumper to alt output. now as far as harness is concerned i only have a single wire wich is a solid brown looking wire.i know this was origanly hooked up but the car has been down for a year getting motor done . and this is my first g/n so i am not sure what to do with this problem all my manuals have no wiring diagrams so i am lost.

i will be very grateful for any help with this as i am hoping to fire this motor up this weekend if possible. thanks in advance for all help

The stock '87 setup has the factory connector with one single brown wire in it going to the harness. Brown wire is on the L terminal second one in.

Red wire goes on the output of the alternator which is the bolt on terminal in the back.

Sounds like the car may be wired for some sort of voltbooster or other type alternator perhaps like the V8 Regals used, hard to tell from your description.

Stock is two wires in two locations as described and the ground.

Fat red wire goes under the motor to the battery directly.

so one brown wire goes to harness. red wire jumps over to alt output. now you say there is a ground wire also? where is this located?is it in the plug in that goes to alt. also .this altenator is new and i dont want to burn it up or wire it wrong.you say brown to L terminal. is that L on the alt. and you say second one in from ?? passenger side or??
sorry if i sound like a dumb ass but i just want to be sure

The ground is through the case and the bolts bracketing, no wires.

Brown wire is second terminal from the passenger side as installed on the factory connector.
