my battery recently went dead and i tried jumpstarting my car with my batterycharger/starter, and it sounded like there was too many volts going thru my system even though the car did not turn over fast enough to start.it sounded like i might have done some damage.Well after that i got the a new Diehard gold battery and it started but it did not have the fast idle mode and idled slow for a while and the voltmeter said i had over 14 volts, i dont remember ever seeing it that high before, i started it again today and it idled o.k. but it was still over 14 volts with the headlights on is this normal ?everything else seems o.k. but i have not driven it yet .does anyone have a voltmeter and can tell me what thier normal voltage is?do you think my gage is damaged or is it from the new battery ?i think i remember the salesman testing the battery and saying it had a better than rated charge on it. thanks in advance!

On a cold day I see 14.4 for a while until the car warms up and the battery gets recharged.

Then typically in the 13's in the winter.

Weak battery that still takes a charge will get the higher voltages.

Anything over 14.6 or so I would start to worry. Not a fan of stressing the cars electronics. ;)
