How anal are you about your buick.

I think all of you need help! Do any of you have jobs, wife, kids, etc. You all realize that its just a car. At the point some of you are at why even drive it at all. You might as well put the thing in your living room and just look at it. I guess its your time and you car so do what you want. But Id much rather be doing my girlfriend, playing with my son, or just watching TV then overcleaning and under using some overpriced piece of metal!

As I type this I am playing with my 5 month old and 3-1/2 yr old. I take care of my car because it is something I am proud of & that I respect. Just like my house I care for things that I have worked hard for.

As for having time to Zaino the car it takes me less than five minutes to apply and after waiting for it to dry overnight it takes about 10 minutes to remove. I used to own a detailing shop so I am not spending hours on end cleaning my car. I know how to do it the right way using my time the most wisely.

It's not a question of "getting a life or getting laid". It's something that I enjoy doing and to each his own. There are plenty of slobs out there who mistreat their cars. Trust me I know because they made me a lot of $ cleaning them just to watch them get trashed all over again.

I too enjoy my car whether it be driving, modding or cleaning. It's all a matter of preference. To me these cars are art and very special. I've had many other toy cars but there is a mystique w/ these cars and forgive me if I want to preserve the legend.

Ok explain this to me. I'm not anal to the point of never driving the car, but my TTA is raced and has 59k miles. What is so bad about doing my own work, washing the car when it gets dirty (about once a week), and giving it a nice wax job every 6 weeks? Unless you own a total POS all the above should be done just to keep it in decent shape...

Update: The tint is off, removed the hood badges and bought new ones which I installed in the correct location. Pullled all the stainless wheelwell moldings, cleaned them out on the inside and pulled the dent that was on the rear drivers side molding and reinstalled last nite.

I'm almost there with the car. A customer of mine is going to airbrush some of the small marks on the car come spring and I'm done for all appearance issues.

Shows that some people worked HARD for their cars, and some havent... its obvious. Over cleaning? i dont need to overclean, cuz she never gets dirty lol. a car fits into peoples lives differently thats all. some people view them as 'just a car' and some people actually love their cars. "you cant take em with you" is true.. but like i keep saying.. theres three sorts of car people.... you see em all the time at the car shows.. Theres the people walking around, just spectating, saying, "man i wish i had a nice car"...theres the classic car owners there, staring at the all original, numbers matching car guys, saying to themselves, "MAN, i had the original engine to this car, and i sold it for 800 bucks.... i sure wish i didnt sell it now.."
then theres the "you need to get laid" guys, that still have their original air box, rims and radio at the car shows, internally chuckling, saying "boy am i lucky i kept all my original parts, and only drove her on special occasions..."
Laughing all the way to the bank....

I knew there would be guys here, that scoff at us anal guys..but thats ok. theres many different types of people here. i knew that. to each is own i guess. but out of the very few turbo regals that are left, theres GOT to be the small handful of guys, that preserve these marvels of automotive history, so that our next few generations can look back into one of these time capsules, and see how we did it in the old school days. history is very important guys.

I'm not that anal about my car but I am anal about keeping all the original parts stored even though most of them are beat. My car looks great since it got done over and I know how to take care of it. I go to track and get rubber all over the back of it but I clean it off when I get home. When it gets dirty, I wash it. My theory is, it only can go downhill. The paint is never gonna look as good as it does right now.

Trust me, I've worked hard for everything I own. I've never had anything handed to me, and because I bust ass for my toys I use them.

When I go to a car show (pretty rare anymore, I get bored looking at the same cars all the time) I rarely show mine and I'm usually the guy who gets asked why he didn't enter the show. I have way better things to do with my time than sit by my car for 8 hours in the sun and answer stupid questions. I usually show up, hang out with the other racer types, and leave sideways with the blower howlin'. Probably makes the spit and polish guys jealous they are too scared to use their toys. Hell, at one show I won with the GN they did a photo shoot for a calender. All the other guys who won were being all careful, I left a good 60 foot of rubber and let them take pictures. The only reason GN's were ever popular is because they were deceptively fast. Most people don't find them particularly attractive, so why not show its true purpose, to go fast?

My GN was very clean, and I got sick of sweating it. My Camaro is clean enough, its far from perfect but it looks good at the track and at the hangouts. Good enough for the "local show" level.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is called blow-in touch up right? I've been asking around and trying to find someone to touch up some stuff on my TTA. I have paint that is mixed that is a really really close match to the original paint and I want to get some rock chips fixed. However no one around me has ever heard of doing this and it makes me angry haha. So if this is similar to what you're talking about and you think they might be able to help me out can you PM me some contact information. I'm from the South Bend area so Schaumburg isn't very far (I've been out there to Speed Inc a couple times).

As for those who think some of us are crazy, some of us enjoy keeping our cars in excellent condition. I still enjoy the car and have put 8k miles on it in 2.5 years which is really quite a bit considering the car had 16k miles on it when I bought it and most people wouldn't even put 1k on it in 1 year. It's been to the drag strip several times in the time frame and autocrossing once. I enjoy the car, but I also enjoy showing the car. I enjoy keeping it in nice condition and showing car enthusiasts out there a nice piece of automotive history, and talking with them about the car. It's nice getting compliments about the car from people who enjoy them, or hearing the stories from the people who always dreamed of owning a TTA. I get just as much enjoyment out of showing the car as I do with racing it.

first off be very careful if only shutting the door by the outer handle. if you push too hard getting it moving it will leave a big low spot in the door, even if you are done pushing by the time it gets to the latch. Ask me how I know.

Just because someone isn't super anal about their car doesn't mean they didn't work for it. For instance, my GN is the second most valuable thing we own, and the house doesn't beat it by that much (double wide trailer, no I am not joking). Daily driver: $850 car. Back up driver: $550 truck. I drove a car with virtually no heater through 3 winters while paying for the GN. 20 minute drive each way. The GN is a 75k mile rust free car so it is no beater by any means, but i'd never be THAT anal about it. It is stored indoors and it stays clean/zaino'd most of the time, but it does see 1-2k miles each year doing cruises and poker runs, and if it rains I have a wet car. I will dry the t top plates off when I park it and wash it again later. One year I took it to a poker run where it hailed about 1/2 hour before I got there. I had one of like 5 classic cars there. Usually there's about 50. I would have a nervous breakdown if I worried about it to the point where I cleaned the undercarraige off after a sunny drive. This is of course just my preference and opinion, and if someone really wants to spend that much of their hard earned free time loving a machine that will not love them back then that is their business, and they have every right to do so. Just don't accuse others of not "earning" their car because they choose not to do so.

The absolute bone stock guys can laugh all the way to the bank in 10-15 years, as I will be laughing behind the wheel of my car that is more powerful and reliable than any stock one that ever left the factory. And I will probably still sell it for what I have in it or more in 10 years, if I ever sell it.

Turbo6smackdown....So let me get this one straight. Just because im not spending all my extra time humping my tailpipe if so much as a piece of dust gets on my car I didnt work hard for it? Ive killed more brain cells huffing kerosene from my garage heater working on this POS then I care to think about. Im sorry the rest of you are so worried about a drop of rain or a little dirt on a piece of machinery. It must be the fact I work on cars for a living that I dont see them the same way you do. Have fun spit shining you garage queen, while your doing that ill be doing what this car was made for. Driving it...rain or shine!
