my car has serious spool up issues. I've checked all the vacume hoses, everything is in good shape or was replaced. i fixed the cracked drivers side header. fuel mixture is right where it should be. i have a street chip, i want to say 22-23* of timing. brand new factory turbo, no play what so ever. 3" downpipe and ported elbow. orange stripe converter.

the problem is i take off and have nothing, and nothing, at about 20 mph the turbo slowly comes in, once the car hits 30 the boost spikes and the car takes off like a mother, easly spining the wheels just before 2nd gear. 60' times at the track are pitiful, 2.5 is on the quick side of average. yet i cross the traps at 102-104 depending on weather and everything else.

does anyone have ANY idea what i could do to try to get it to spool up. i dont' care how crazy it is, i'd be willing to hear anything. I'm starting to think the chip is partly to blame, less timming would help spool, but on the top end it runs great so i dont' know that i want to change that.

Have you checked all the things for leak?

Mine was spooling really slow with a cracked header to turbo gasket, fixed and spools up lots quicker.

Also, have you checked if the electronic solnoid is bringing the boost up also?

Torque converter lunched?

Puck not sealing hole in turbine cover?

How is your wastegate hooked up?

Are you running extremely rich?

I had a similiar problem that turned out to be an excessively rich lower-mid RPM fuel table....I leaned that dude out and the spool was near instant!

chip is a joe lubrant 93 octane chip, thats what the privious owner put in and i really don't know much about it.

no exhaust leaks before the turbo.
no cat, 3" dump instead
bleeder valve type boost controller

what do you mean my torque converter launch? i dont' have a tranns brake if thats what your asking. its more than just a lunch problem though, from a roll i can stomp it and it still takes a while to spool up.

can another chip lean out the lower end while not affecting the top end?

i am blessed with a digital dash, so no tach. but i can build up 6# at the track, if i set at the line for a long time i can get it up to 8, but i care more about reaction times than et's.

it really isn't any of the obvious problems, i've corrected all of them allready.

Do you have a scan tool hooked up yet? If so what are your O2's and BLMs while trying to spool. It has been my experince that Joes' chips are lean on the bottom. What is your converter stalling at with the foot brake? Maybe try running the stock boost control set up instead of the bleeder to see if that works?

I think he meant lunched (as in dead), not launched, on the torque converter :-). We are both wondering if it is too tight and therefore killing your spoolup. Foot brake up to 0-1 psi of boost and see what rpms that is at. You say you have an orange stripe converter, which I'm assuming is a modified stock unit with a stall somewhere between 2800 and 3000 rpms, so at 0-1 psi boost you should see at least 2600 rpm on the foot brake.

Yes, the fuel curve in the chip controls both the spoolup fueling and the higher rpm wot fueling (and everywhere else :-)), but because every car is a little different a chip can be lean on the bottom end in one car and rich in another, and the same for WOT.

The basic list of poor spoolup causes has been pretty well covered: exhaust leaks before the turbo, exhaust restrictions anywhere before or after the turbo, a leaky/misfitting wastegate puck, actuator set too loose so puck isn't closed with no boost, torque converter too tight for the cam/turbo/rest of combination, and the fuel and timing not optimized for your car.
