I cant find a kit to move my turbo mounting to side or front in order to install an intercooler. (I was told that installing an intercooler with the top mount looses HP, because of the long pipeing). Any info as to where to find a kit, or what customization is needed would be nice. I have an upgraded cam, ported intake and heads, a stage 3 chip, and Hooker Header Super Comp. exhaust with no cat.
other upgrade info would be nice too. I am on a limited budget tho.

you could always change out the headers to 86-87 style and go from there.

and don't forget to change all the accessory brackets that bolt to the front of the engine, as well.

Are you sure that the 86-87 headers and brackets will bolt on? I know the intake manifolds arnt compatable.

I am pretty sure that the pass. side header would fit if you cut the a/c compressor bracket and got rid of the compressor. I am not 100% sure as this is not the route that I went. And on the Intake manifold, there have been quite a few people on here put them on 84-85'.

everything from an 87 will bolt up. intake, front acces, headers, etc.

You can reclock your turbo and it will face toward the radiator, then work out some pipes, I plan to to water to air IC, but try FROZENBOOST.COM This will kept you cooled and hide the IC since it's water to air. but i'm trying to work on a custom adaptor that moves the TB in a 45 or so angle. So i can run the IC pipes better but it's just an idea for now. WEll yes you wont get as much HP since the IC pipe are longer but HI temp them and make it work better. JUST LOOK AT THE MOTOR AND THING OF SOME IDEAS

Now that I have read up on Alky Injection, I am thinking of keeping it hot air. But I still want to upgrade the turbo.

First of all, how good of an upgrade would a Turbonetics 62-1 turbo be over stock. Or how good would a turbonetics t56 be over stock.

Second, how would I fit a bigger turbo in there without raising the hood.

Third, what adjustments would I need to make to the throttle body.

I went with a PTE turbo myself I would suggest one of these as many people on here have one and do nothing but rave about them!!! Good luck on whatever way you choose to go!!!!

84-85 converted to 86-87

You can put alky on it but it is not the same as putting alky on a 87. there are differences and more problematic. My friend garrett went through all of the 84 -85 possibilities including inner cooling and ended up converting over to 86-87. If you are interested, I have everything needed to convert. If you are interested send me a PM or an email.

You could use CRYo2 from summit but it cost a bit more but does cool the air a whole lot from what i hear. Bigger turbo means bigger injectors, adj fuel pressure reg, better exhaust system, better air intake system, better wastegate and on and on. You could just use a better T3 or T3/T4 hybrid. Pretty much your gonna spend 4k to get the most out of this car. Just buy a big mouth cold air intake system (forgot web site but one of the guys will know)get postons headers, hooker exhaust system, better cat(like dynomax super cat) lower stat. It's up to you really but a better turbo isn't always the way to go. I believe (from this or one of the buick sites) our turbos can make up to 350 hp with other mods. I BELIEVE SO not sure

You are limited to how big of a turbo you can put on a 85 because the compressor housing hits the intake. I think the limit is a 32. You can contact Garrett (he is on this board ) and he will tell you all about it. He has been every which way with the hot air motor and then finially converted over to 87.
You can purchase everything needed to convert for under $2000. You would get intake, plenum, tb, coil, injectors and inj harness, computer, engine wireing harness, turbo, inner cooler, all brackets and accessories (alt, power steering, a/c), exhaust headers, a/c lines, inner cooler fan, crank sensor, tps, temp sensor. I can keep going but it will be everything needed to make the conversion possible.

Or............you could just modify the pass. side header to locate the turbo in the general area where an 86-87 is, like I did.

Hmmm..... do I spend $2000 dollars on a total swap, or a few hundred for a functional alternative? tough decisions.

The answer depends on your goal for speed first and more importantly your wallet. If your goal is a quicker than a mid twelves qtr car convert to the 86/87 setup now. Ths will allow the most important advantage over a hot air-bigger turbo. Good luck. Brad

So can you fabricate/weld at all?? Just make your own manifold. It isn't very hard at all.

Yea that would definately be pushing my talents. Plus, I love this car too much to do any work myself that isnt just bolt on. I leave customization to the professionals.

I am by no means a pro, lol. I think it just takes a little imagination and the right tools and you can do wonders!!! You should try on some other stuff first then move to your car once you feel confident you can do it. You can save yourself ALOT of money doing the work yourself.

I would like to see some pics of this engine just for curiosity. It sounds like he can pull rabbits out of a hat talking about making intake manifolds, headers to move the turbo forward and then of course brackets to get the accessories to the other side of the engine. WOW. I would just like to see some of his fabrication.
