Im going to pick up a used 2004r transmission out of a 1986 grand national, is their any way to tell that it is actually out of a gn? (i heard the valve bodys are different in the gn 2004r's)

Mine slips bad between shifts, and i could use this as the core, and have it rebuilt, then just swap it out one day.

Any ID tags, or ID numbers in the case?

Thanks for your help

Rob

86 GN's should have a Blue tag near the tail shaft with the code letters "BRF" on it. The valve body should have a "BR2" or "BR3" stensiled on it.

If the tag is missing than an easy way to tell is to look at the drivers side pan rail. There is a flat spot and the full VIN of the car that the trans came out of should be stamped there. The 8th character should be the number 7 and the 11th character should be the letter P if it is a BRF spec tranny.
