When my car is hot and i sit at a long light, i get blue smoke.
As soon as i drive away it stops. When i get to the next long light blue smoke again.
This started with my new heads and turbo install.
Bad turbo seal?
Bad valve seal?
Is it possible that the oil is puddling in the head and running over the seal????
PCV is dry.
Thanks

I'd suspect the turbo. What heads? I reputable source told me that in order for heads to cause continuous smoke like that, the valves would have so much play in them the car would barely run. Also, if only does it after running and not on immediate startup, thats usually the turbo. Good luck.

Do leak down test to rule out the valve seals..I would be suspect of them..Is your turbo new or rebuilt?

Try two things to see if it's the turbo:
1. Find a good "crowned" road. Once you get it good and warmed up, park it on the left side of the road, tilting toward the driver's side. If the smoke goes away, then try it on the right side of the road. If it starts smoking like crazy, it's the oil seal (split ring) on the turbine side.

2. Try a heavier oil.

I went through 2 rebuilds on Turbonetics turbos several years ago. A friend of mine was going through the same thing, and Kenny D. set him up with a restrictor in the turbo oil supply line.

Don't rule out the heads. My "new" Champ irons did the same thing. I installed them out of the box on a new motor and it smoked. Yanked the the heads off and sure enough...the guides were junk. They used guide sleeves as opposed to putting in new guildes. I can't say it was the sleeves that did it or maybe just some poor workmanship that made it out the door at Champ. Anyway, I had my machine shop install new iron guides and seals. That cleared it up the smoke on that motor.

I'm not saying it's the heads, but don't rule it out. :(

This is a new turbo.

Yup...it happens. I bought a new 49 turbo several years back that had some poor machine work done to it causing oil to run behind a seal. If its the guides you would see oil on startup. I suspect the turbo though

I just called precision turbo and they said it is probably the seal, and to send it back for repair.
I dont want the down time again...

My new champion heads did the same thing as well as other cars that have champion heads on them:mad:

Richie, Mac makes a good point here. You have that oversized braided line to your turbo. Maybe too much oil is getting to the turbo. ...........Hey, I'll hook you up with one of my homemade turbo savers. :D

my new Champ alums smoked at idle for about 100 miles....then quit....my builder said that was normal

I have not had time to do anything as of yet, I have a new bigger turbo on the shelf waiting to go on. Just need more time.

i have the same problem. your original post about being at a stop light and such. well thats me too. i hate downtime and i have no time. i think me and u are pretty similar. im going to go get my car tilted on the wheel ramps from walmart and just use one side at a time like that one guy said. If it is a turbo ill get one. but please god i dont want to deal with heads.
