Hey guys,
I need advice on properly prepping, cleaning and lubing a recently purchased engine in which I'm installing a crank turned 10 under on mains and 20 on the rods, new main and rod bearings, and lubing the piston rings before firing the car up. I just got my crank back from the maching shop today and am getting ready to get everything cleaned up and installed. I just want to make sure I don't miss anything while I'm doing this. I want to keep the inside of the engine as clean as possible to prevent any bearing damage.
The engine seems to be fresh with hardly any running time. But the engine has sat for an extended period of time. The valve covers are clean, looks like new valve springs and head bolts, intake is clean behind the throttle body and behind the thermostat housing, block is clean and painted black and had a new rear main and other gaskets, fresh solid steel timing gear and everything is completely stock. Is complete with injectors, sensors and all other intake components. I don't know much about prelubing the pistons, but the cylinders seem to be kinda dry, and I didn't know if it was recommended to do so or how to for that matter. I would like to remove the pisons anyways to check the cylinder walls and tops of the pistons. What steps do you guys recommend I take in order to be most successful? Let me know what you think.
thanks
Dan
