intake alignment

Has anyone noticed how bad the intake manifold runner matches the head runner by looking through the injector port with a fel pro gasket? I bolted mine up and it looks like the intake is about 3/32nds to high. I took it back off and tried it with no gasket, it was still off about a 1/16. I can't see the floor of the runners but know if the top is off the bottom is off. Both parts were gasket matched good, that is why I want this right. This is a HA intake on a 86/87 block. I don't think my heads were decked that much. Is this just poor factory design and that is why buick didn't worry about opening the runners as much as they could? Has anyone ever needed to have their intake milled? 20170731_200801.jpg

Machine the intake so it fits properly. Gasket matching isn't a good idea. It doesn't help power and increases the likelihood of leakage from misalignment
