My mechanic thinks I have a bad manifold gasket causing #6 cylinder to be dead. I've sprayed carb clean all around and found no evidence of it. Is this a common problem with these cars or is he just guessing with my money?

curious as to how your "mechanic" determined #6 is dead ,
does the car build boost smoothly under footbrake, if it cant then you may have a missing cylinder
was the exhaust mainifold tube at # 6 cooler than the rest when idleing?
(this could be checked with your hand or with a infrared thermometer
did he pull the plug ?
is the plug ok, wet / dry, fouled? ,does it look clean ,grey , black ?
is the plug cracked from install ?(thats a tight spot for some to get installed even with a swivel plug socket)

does it have compression ?
did he do a leakdown test ?
does the spark fire to #6?
is the wire ok and not open tested with ohm meter or with a plug installed on wire and visibly checked for spark , is it corroded at the terminals or coil ?
is the boot all the way down on the plug and clicked ?
if plug is dry is the injector firing ?

this is what you check for a cylinder that looks to be not firing .

and if you lose# 6 due to bad ign module or coil pack you would also lose #3

Thanks

The plug was fouled. The compression was 115lbs when i checked it myself--cold engine and wot. The wires are new from Carquest and they are crap. The ends are not crimped to the outer rubber but only to the inner part. I'm going out to play around with it now. If anyone has the time to help me with this you can call me at: 985-643-1016. Thanks, Tommy
