SignUp Now!Hi my scanmaster showed .7 degrees of retard. Is that to much? should I back down the boost? It was fine till it got colder out.
thanks
Jack
lol, when I see .7 kr, I assume thats false. When I see 5 deg.kr, I push the gas further, thats with a t66. If its under 8 deg. kr, i'm still on it full throttle. But i'm sure others will chime in and say, OH MY GOD AHHHHH, .7 DEG!!!! turn down the BOOST!!! f- that, turn it up a little:smile:
but beware, see my little pic up there, looks just like jeryll's did before he changed his pic, but his was worst hehe.
The ECM should "learn" very quickly to get the right mixture, so lean shouldn't be the problem. But cooler air is denser, and cooler air makes the IC work better, so the air into the engine gets even more dense. With same boost, you will have more pounds of air into the engine, with more fuel, and it can raise combustion pressures past the knock point. I think you could make MORE power, by turning the boost down just a tad, if you have one of those quick boost controls. But I've never seen any test figures to verify that, so it's just a guess.Until it got colder out, is the density of the air a factor, seeing that it will lean the tune!?
I still dont understand why any of you will run with knock. Sure .7 isnt going to blow right there, but the longer your running with knock, the shorter the engine will last. If I was running for pinks or money, sure I wouldnt pay attention to it, but if its just test and tune or messing around, why?

Yes stock cars have tons of knock. I dare you to find knock on any my current or past cars. You wont find any. And no, none of my regular cars knock either. I have one of those all in one gauges on my Silverado and WOT it doesnt have any knock...
