I have a choice between a 4.1 or 3.8 some people say the 4.1 isnt as good as the 3.8 is that tru. and if i should get the 4.1 do it take the same internals and heads and intake as a 3.8? Im looking to run at least 10.50 but safely. Thanks guys

the 4.1 is weaker in a variety of areas, the deck, lifter valley, probably less webbing in some spots. metallurgically they're about the same as far as I know. The 4.1 uses the same crank, and from what I understand all of a certain model year of 4.1 are rolled fillet cranks, but you'll have to doublecheck in case it has been rebuilt and a cheap crank thrown in. Can't use the 8445 heads either I don't think. intake is definitely different due to deck height issues. There are a bunch of threads already out there on this, search for them. Some really good info. Personally, I would stick with the 3.8. it's a proven combo, is stronger, more is known about the ups and downs of it, etc.

You did not say what application or HP range you are planning?

A 4.1 can use heads, cam, and all other stuff from '84-5 and earlier motors. With some upgrades like steel caps and girdle, is should be good for 6-650 HP if done properly. A stock 4.1 will not have turbo pistons, but originally all 4.1's came with turbo crank/rods.

Hey Lamont , I got a 109short block with two steel caps, 30 over 218/218 cam bla, bla. with the right stuu it is good for 10's
