is my turbo bad?

i have had this ttype for a while but I just started messing with it. it is fast but seems to be all engine. im not feeling the boost and its not showin on my gauges either...maybe just a little when it should be a lot more. when i let off the gas after steppin on it i hear the turbo flutter a little but it sounds really wierd... not the sound i am used to. the car has a stock turbo. it does have a front mount intercooler and maybe a blow off valve?? not sure how it works or sounds really... there wasnt any oil in the up pipe... i am going to take off the pipe between the MAF and the turbo and see if I can see anything wrong with it...

When you remove MAF

try spinning the turbine by hand to see if it rotates freely? If not you may have coked bearings. Don't forget to check for rub marks or oil :smile: on the housing.

how are your headers? if they are cracked it will make a big difference in how it spools, but i wouldn't say that it would cause it to not spool up.

if it does spin freely check for a lot of play, having a SLIGHT amount of play up and down is pretty much unavoidable but if it feels significant then it probably is, i'd also say to check the inside of the turbo housing. its 6 bolts on the back side of the compressor housing.

the headers are good. i havent checked the turbo yet, i am about to right now. im also noticing what looks like oil coming from my exhaust pipes.

the turbo looks good. i noticed that the part on the back where it is supposed to connect to the passenger side valve cover was left open... so i plugged it and now it spools a lot better...

Hell yeah, if that hole was left open, then there's your problem! Cap that sucker off. Even better, go with one of the billet aluminum inlet bells that will help flow a tad.

at least i figured out that my turbo was ok today... maybe ill figure out what is making this noise now...
