i would like to get a larger turbo, and had my mind set on the te-44 but think that maybe i should get something alittle larger that i could grow in, as i know that my car will probably never be "fast enough" but for now i have to use my car as just about a daily driver, my question is, is there a turbo that works good on the street but has more potential than the 44.

thanks

no. There are so many things that need to be upgraded in your combo if you chose a turbo larger than a TE44, it isn't worth going larger until you actually upgrade those things.

A TE44 will easily run high 11's in race trim and a stock long block. When you get good, it will run mid 11's.

Your car probably runs mid-low 13's, now.

If you can have a streetable turbo that will run mid 11's, why would you choose one that isn't as streetable or needs more mods to make work?

after reading what you just said, you are right. I think that i was getting ahead of myself, when i decide to upgrade i will stay with the 44, thanks

Yeah definately the TE-44 Turbo. For the max in my opinion would be the TE-60 Turbo that has about 20 more horses on the top end but if you have stock heads and cam the TE-44 should be your choice.I have alot of modifications and i had a much bigger turbo before but the bottom end power was terrible. My PTE-44 turbo is so much more fun to drive.Better street manners and throttle response. You will really enjoy the TE-44 though.I still would upgrade your converter to at least a 2800 stall though.I am getting a 3200 9.5 inch converter for my PTE-44 turbo in the future but I have alot of good Mods that it will work with my engine combo. If i were you though i would get a TE-44 rather then the PTE-44 because the exhaust housing can create a little more turbo lag. :D

I Love my TA60. Works great since I have street tires and stock converter. I can launch at 3-4 psi with almost no tire spin and it launches hard. Running 18psi with alky. Going to be putting some ported irons on, TH 3" DP, 50# injectors, and a few other things as soon as I get it all back together. This turbo and the rest of the mods should work great.
I searched alot of posts before deciding what turbo to get. I would suggest you do the same. There are a ton of opinions and experiences to aid you in deciding.

A TA-60 is one step up maybe 10 more top end power. But with a stock engine sorry you can't beat the TA-49 or TE-44 turbo's!!

I agree.
I chose the TA60 because I wanted a little more, because I knew I was going to upgrade other things as well. Turbo choice needs to also incorporate future mods...or near future mods. It wouldn't be worth it to get a ta49 for a stock style setup, then put ported heads, DP, injectore and alky on. You'll loose some top end power you could be making.
It's all about what works best for your application and expectations and I couldn't be happier with my setup.
It's all about what you want outta your car.

I've had a TE44 for years. With an AC 9" 3000 stall convertor I have instant boost and can blow the street tires off at will.

Get the 44 then start collecting and upgrading parts towards a bigger turbo, then sell the 44 for $2-300 less then what u bought it for and put that money towards the bigger turbo.
You could probably get a used one(as many are upgrading) and loose very little when it comes time to "trade-in".
Get a newer IC and some 50's and you'll be running low 12's-mid 11's

Blowing the street tires off is fun but gets you no where. I had an LS1 with 3500 stall, 3:73's, cam, and a few other things. On the street my car was worthless because it would just boil the drag radials and I didn't want to run around on slicks all the time, take the time and chance on heating them up and all that. Also with an automatic, they aren't the best from a punch against an M6. And even at a 30mph punch it would still spin. The only time I could get decent traction was at the track and even then the tires/track would start to let go after a couple runs.
Basically you want to be able to put the power to the ground. If you are spinning then the other guy is leaving you behind, if he can launch his car. I like having a little lag because it gives the tires time to get rolling for a second before all that power comes in. I am not going to put a converter on my car until it is my second car and I put suspension and run e.t. streets all the time.
Converters are great until they overdo the power limits of your tires/suspension. I might have a little lag, but it launches out hard and in about 1 second you are going to the tune of 20psi.....soon it wil be 25 psi:D
Not trying to knock converters, just think about what you will be using the car for and what kinda tires you have. If you don't have traction to support the converter, then your almost taking a step back.

I'd stick with a 44, i was thinking the same thing until i started goin to the track. Letting out because of some blown vacuum hoses which gave me 8* of knock i ran the time in my sig, so far with only 17-18 psi and pump gas on a great day i ran two 11.9s at 113.5. All this is on a pte44 and a 3200 stall on nittos. A 44 can go a lot faster than its given credit for. I do have a nice set of good flowing heads and cam but im running a street chip and boost no higher than 23 psi as well. A stock long block on a race chip, and 25 psi can hit mid 11s easy with good traction. We bolted my turbo onto my friends stock longblock car last night and he ran a 12.3 at 106 on a crap 1.90 60 ft(let out due to knock from a boost spike) He only has a THDP, 50s, 3" exhaust, chip, and my borrowed 23 row intercooler and PTE44. I had planned on upgrading to a 61 turbo but have decided to push the 44 to as fast as I can get it. Its a great street turbo. Good luck:cool:

davsgn the page doesnt work,

to everyone thanks for all of your advice i definitly know that i will go with the 44

The TE-44 rocks for a street/strip turbo. Unless you want to push a lot of boost on the steet or race at the track often, a TE-44 may be all the turbo you will ever need.
