have a chance to buy a maf from a z06, is this a good mod i would have to buy the other stuff to go with it, as of right now a have a k&n cone and maf pipe for stock maf, so i would have to replace those as well but i thought that i would ask, if this one of the better mods, all other mods are in sig.
thanks for any help.

zo6 maf,,good idea ???

I put a LT1 maf in mine ,along with a translator plus and an extender chip, runs very smooth with very good idle and stop n go manners very good as well,,the only comparison I can make to this setup is the 85 t-riv I used to own,you see this setup I have is totaly new to me,I didnt do it in "steps", cause the car had a blowen eng when I bought it,,I`d recomend it for sure,,but remember, I have a 3" ,and I think a zo6 is a 31/2" maf,, could be a different animal ??

I don't know if you totally understand but I'll clarify just in case.

In order to run a different MAF than the stock one (late model Gm 3 or 3 1/2) You HAVE to have the translator or Trans+ in order to run it on our cars...it is NOT optional.

The translator (and +) literally does just that. It translates the signal from the late model MAF in to something our ECMs can understand.

yeah Zam i understand that, my main question is how does this mod compare with others that a beginner like myself should be making, what kind of gains could i expect from this?
thanks

No real "gains"...it'll just get you away from the (rimored) failure prone stock MAF. The Trans + does give you some tunability though.
If you want the best gain for the buck, Buy a MaxEffort chip, alcohol and learn to tune it...

I agree with zam.....my stock maf works fine.I would lose the flowmasters instead.;)

Hard to go "fast with calss" with that blub blub blub sound comin' out yer tail - get the ulteflows...keeps it friendly

what do you all think about putting the new maf up by the throttle body, i read it works really well, is there any performance to be gained from doing this?

No. You gain horsepower in these cars with more boost and corresponding fuel mods. When you are running low 11s then you can mess with intake to squeeze out some extra horses.

I don't know how you'd work a MAF in at the TB with the uppipe there...either way it is just a sensor, won't gain you anything.

You might want to check if the Translator will work the the ZO6 MAF.

I've only heard that the LT1 and LS1 will work. Maybe there is a new Translator out there since I got mine.

Check out the pictures on my website and you can see how to make your own Cold Air system with the new MAF.

Pretty sure that I read somewhere (possibly here) recently that the translator/translator + should work fine with the Z06 MAF. I'll try to find the link and post it when I do.

ok, i read on hear that putting the maf between the throttle body and up pipe was better, but it seems to me like it would be hard on it, at the stock location theres not much air going through it, but relocated to the throttle body and having 20+ lbs on boost going through it seems like it would mess it up really quick.

From what I got out of the MAF relocation tech article on www.gnttype.org you should only move the MAF to the uppipe if you're running the newer LT1 or LS1 style MAF, which seem to be much stronger than the stock one as well as able to flow more air. I'm not sure if the Z06 MAF will fit there due to it's larger size but it might

If you're planning on picking up that Z06 MAF then you might gain a little better driveability/road manners/throttle response if you put it in the uppipe (not sure if you can even do this, as the Z06 requires larger piping that might not fit) and since you were redoing all the piping anyway it wouldn't be that much extra work. Let us know what you decide and how it works out for you.

cool man thanks for all your help, i think that my best bet will be to leave it in the stock location and like you said replace the maf pipe and cone filter to larger ones to go with the larger MAF, i am really wiery about putting a MAF in the up-pipe cramming 20 plus lbs of boost through it, it just doesnt seem like a good idea.

You can 'blow thru' the Z06 MAF, but it is not really the strongest unit for this.

The translators work fine on the Z06 MAFs. (version 5.2 and later)

The same amount of air that would get blown through it would have to be sucked through it in the normal configuration. The Turbo dosn't create air. But you are correct that it would be underpressure if it was after the turbo
