Any helpful hints on installing Casper's knock gauge and the audible?
Or is it so straight-forward that no hints are necessary?
Thanks

The only trick to the gauge is splicing into the wire that feeds the ECM - be very careful not to mess things up here.

As far as the detector goes, I've had 2 and they work for crap. They only seem to work when the knock is excessive (i.e. the gauge goes red), and that doesn't do much for you at that rate, does it? Not very preventative, eh?

I have conducted the tap test on the lower intake using a long extension and confirmed my driving observations that the detectors have a mind of their own, and told Spina as much.

I second 'eagle's opinion....of marginal value except to fill a hole

This is not what I wanted to hear.
Kind of an expensive little "hole filler".
Could have (should have?) bought a lot of race gas instead.
Anyone have anything positive to say?
Thanks.

This must be one of the add-ons that are of personal taste and benefits. I had a few people respond on my thread regarding next mods and some chimed in stating get a knock gauge. I hope we can hear from a few of them on their opinoins. I would hate to waste my money on one as well.

To be clear, I like Casper's knock gauge, but IME, their audible knock detector doesn't work for a damn...

I think my knock gauge is overreacting because my scanmaster only shows 1-2 degrees of knock while my knock gauge reads full-on red.

if the knock gauge will be used as a "relative thing" and you will back off if it shows any indication of knock, go ahead and get it (particularly if you run pump gas)

just don't rely on it for anything but a warning device and treat a yellow lite as seriously as a red lite on the gauge!

I have never really compared what the gauge vs turbolink or scan master might say, but I have seen that when i have my car setup to show a light or two at WOT thru 3 gears, when it hits 4th gear the knock detector will slowly climb as i stay in it....to me that says it is doing something of use, but no i would never rely on it as a tuning tool as far as knowing HOW much knock I am seeing...

also, if your car is like mine and shows false knock during shifts, it tends to be of even less use...

Best money I ever wasted.

If each light represented a degree of knock or had any meaning at all then it would be cool.

I'm glad others showed me the benefits of the Scanmaster.
