Knock sensor, how far should the voltage drop?

I have a volt meter on the yellow w/ black stripe wire that reports knock to the ECM. Casper's told me it should be about 8.5V with they key on. I've got 9.15, so I figure that's probably OK. When I bang the block, the voltage only drops about 1 volt, down to 8.15 or so. No matter how hard or how fast I hit the block, the voltage will not drop below that point. I was under the impression that the knock signal wire should drop to zero volts to pull max timing. Since mine never drops below 8.15, I think my knock sensor is bad. I have tried various torque specs on the sensor with no change.

Any idea's?
