Ok, I posted yesterday that my caspers knock alarm suddenly started going off & I had no knock retard. Turns out that I am getting retard my otc just takes so long to update I didn't see it. Car has been running great at 24lbs boost on phillips 118 octane, absolutely no knock. All of a sudden it is knocking & I have made no changes at all. Could plugs cause knock? They're delco r42ts gapped at .032 been in since 12-1-05. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Too hot of a plug can cause detonation. The delco 42s are in the right ballpark for most gn's but you may want to double check with gnttype.org to match a plug to your combo. Or maybe you'll get lucky and a real expert will chime in with an answer.
Since youve been running those plugs without problems until now I would tend to think they arent the problem. Maybe just a bad tank of gas? Good luck.

plugs could be problem but i tend to agree probably bad gas. BTW plugs should be gapped about .028 to make sure you dont blow out spark JMO

Thanks for the replies guys. I hadn't really thought about the gas, I put in five gallons last week & when I got it they only had four gallons of 118 so I threw in a gallon of 114. It smelled good going in as usual but I will definately get some more, & I changed the plugs tonight but haven't taken it out yet. I will post results tommorrow.

Thanks

That gallon of 114 might just have been enough to put you over the edge. Just curious...did you put different plugs in or new 42s?

Plugs

I sure hope so with the 114, I just figured it wouldn't hurt mixed in with about 10 gallons of 118 (the car allready had five in it). Hopefully it is a combination of that & the 118 is just old. I did get the stuff from the bottom of the barrell. I put in new 42ts plugs as I allready had them here.

Thanks

No knock

Well thanks for all the help. Ran it close to empty & put in five gallons of fresh 118 today. Knock is completely gone.

Huskerland

Ten miles south of omaha, 200 miles north of kcir, and ten minutes from a track with wet pits that can't open.

My wife's and my roots are in NE (Morrill, Pilger and Sutton). We keep in touch with our roots by following the Huskers....I guess that makes us part of the Husker Nation ;) Go Big Red! I hoped you were closer :)

is there an allowable amount of knock on the scan master. sometimes it gets as high as .054

I'm not real familliar with the scanmaster, but I though it only read tenths. Are you sure it's not 5.4? Any knock retard in my opinion is not good, it is caused by detonation, which leads to blown headgaskets & broken internal components. I have heard that 1 or 2 degrees on a shift may be ok as long as it goes away right after the shift.
