upgrade to LED's...

Here is what I did to upgrade my nasty old bulbs to LED’s:

(using the numbers I put in the pics)

1 – 194 RED (LED was called T10, my LED had 6 LED’s)
2 – 1157 RED (I got the LED with the 63 LED’s on it)
3 – 194 RED (LED was called T10, my LED had 6 LED’s)
4 – 1157 RED (I got the LED with the 63 LED’s on it)
5 - 1156 WHITE (I got the LED with the 31 LED’s on it)
6 - 194 AMBER (LED was called T10, my LED had 6 LED’s) I actually used WHITE for this one. It looks aweseome!
7 – 1157 AMBER (I got the LED with the 63 LED’s on it)
8 - 194 AMBER (LED was called T10, my LED had 6 LED’s)

I also got a RED 1156 (31 LED) for the third brake light, but I haven’t put it in yet.
I also put a white T10 in the license plate.

The best thing I did was to replace the dash lights with the T10 WHITE LED’s. What a difference!

I haven’t done the dome light, the trunk light, the under hood light, or the other interior lights yet, but they do have the LED versions.

Nice info! Now we could use a link to where you bought them! ;)

I'm going to buy the rest of these bulbs to see how they will compliment my Rear LED taillights. This looks like the way to go in the front seeing those bezles are plastic seam sealed from the factory.

LED Parking light bulbs??? - TurboBuick.Com

My front lenses are totally clear. I used a band saw to cut the old lenses off and then I put clear lexan on them.

Some LED places are "USHD.STORE", "V-LEDS" and "superbrite". It seems most places have both a website and an evilbay store.

It seems the selection has greatly increased over the years. These 63 LED bulbs are radical...

OK, that first post, with the Sylvania part numbers, is a little mis-leading.

The front bulbs are two 194's, and one 2057 (per side).

The tail lights are two 194's. and two 2057's (per side).

Shawn, what did you have to do about the turn signal flasher to work with LED's? Thanks.

Shawn, what did you have to do about the turn signal flasher to work with LED's? Thanks.

Glad you asked.

I just put my new flasher in yesterday (forgot to pay for it on ebay and I had to wait a few days for it). It didn't work at first, so I swapped the wires around (blue and purple), and now it works great. Nice and fast.

I got it from a different store then I bought the bulbs from (got the bulbs from "ushd.store" or "us home direct"). I got the flasher from ebay store "v-leds" or seller "vleds". They also seem to have a bigger selection. They have the dome light for our cars (561), etc. The flasher was "2 PIN ELECTRONIC LED FLASHER BLINKER FIX 1157 3157 7443" " Turn Signal Fix
This 12 V, 30 Watt Electronic Flasher replaces your standard thermal flasher. This will solve LED related turn signal problems such as hyper flashing, no flashing, or burnt out bulb indications. These are designed for most 2 pin systems.

Standard Features
Eliminates the need for load resistors
No clicking sound when flashing
Simple Plug N' Play installation
Easily adaptable to most motorcycles
Measures 3cmx3cm 1-1/8"x1-1/8" "

Also, I used a white 194 (T10) 6 LED bulb for the license plate. However, the LED's are just pointing straight out, so I think I am going to swap it out for a bulb with some 90 degree LED's. (I will be starting a new thread on the different kinds of LED's for the guages like VDO, etc).

"The best thing I did was to replace the dash lights with the T10 (194) WHITE LED’s. What a difference!"

Well, I can say that this was great at first. The lights were about 10,000 times better.

However, three of the bulbs just died on me in the past week. They are the 194 style with I think six LED's mounted on them. It looks like a few of the LED's are out, and the rest are flashing.

I did read on one site that the LED's don't stand up to well with the high heat on the inside of our cars.

Anyone else have this problem?

Did you ever figure out what was burning out your led's? I was thinking of getting some because my dash lights have dimmed along with my gauges over the years. I was thinking of this style that I found on superbirghtleds.com. I don'tknow if it would make a differance but they have a bult in voltage regulator. I'll have to call the company I'm curious if that voltage regulator would do more then just beable to use the dimmer.

I got some from superbrightleds.com. So far, so good...

bulb (bulb price + color price January 2009) - style
WLED-B4 (1.59 + 1.00) - 4 front
WLED-B5 (2.99 + .75) - 1 front, four side
WLED-B-120 (.79 + .60) - 1 wide front
WLED-CW5 (2.99 + .95) - 1 front, four side

man, too many choices now a days...

The ones I got from superbrite without the regulators have lasted as long as the ones I bought from evilbay without any problems so far.

I am curious about the ones with the regulators. I need to buy a couple more from some gauges I have so I will try them out.

I also need to find a better one for my license plate. I am using a WLED-B5 right now, but I think I need one with more of a 90 degree bend in the socket or something? Not sure if WLED-WHP6-D would fit. WLED-xHP5 might work.

Also need to get one of the "festoon" style for the dome light...
