hey guys, hope someone can help. heard a loud ticking/rattle from under the pass. valve cover. cover came off, no obvious sign of trauma, felt around the lifters and one was loose. i thought maybe a bent rod or something. springs looked good, so off came the intake.... well there is was, the lifter's retaining spring popped out and there were 2 pieces(the top part of the lifter w/the oil hole and another round piece) standing on end w/ the rod between them down into the lifter. rod looks fine, cam lobe looks fine. my question is..can i replace the lifter w/o any side effects? my buddy said he had replaced all the lifters on his sbc and his cam went flat in 20 min. will just replacing one w/o replacing the cam be a bad idea?
btw- the underside of the lifter looked great.

hey all you Albuquerque area boys! been a while, hope all is well.

thanks everyone, Lee

if you cant find all the components to put the lifter back together then i would buy another lifter and replace guts into the old lifter so there is no chance of breakin disaster

thanks guys, i was hopeful that i should not have a severe problem w/ exchanging the lifter. rebuilding the old one....mmm, never thought of that, sounds good too. that is why i posted here...lots of ideas..thanks again
