I just bought a lightweight starter and need to know which terminal on the solenoid that the main positive wire goes to. There are two that look identical. So is it the one closest to the starter or the far one?

TIA,
Terry

I cant see the starter obviously, but i'll bet the main batt juice cable goes to the biggest lug on the solinoid. The starter engage wire is gonna go to the terminal labled "S".
Good Luck

Don't know where my other starter is packed, but, doesn't one of the large terminals...(bottom one, I think) have a ground strap to the starter?

I'd keep the positive wire off the starter.

Use an 18 gauge or so wire to the battery and make sure the ground is in place on the car.

Try the left top terminal in the pic. farthest away from the starter motor body and see if it clicks when you touch the cable on and off the terminal.

Should engage the solenoid and you should hear it click in.

Don't put the big heavy cable on it unless you want or need to spin the motor over too.

Be careful. :)

Otherwise ask from the place ya got it. ;)

Comparing to OEM Starter...

The OEM starter is similar, the only real difference is that the one terminal on the solenoid closest to the starter that actually connects to the starter isn't the same design - one couldn't connect the battery cable to it if ya tried. The new starter, as you can see, uses the same type of terminal to connect the solenoid to the starter.

It's obvious now...sorry I didn't inspect it closer initially.
