Whenever I try to lock the TCC with installed switch I can feel performance fall off in the 1/4. I am locking in third gear. Am I doing it too early perhaps? Maybe wait later?

What do you mean you can "feal" performance fall off??? Have you actually got time slips to back up that claim?? Because my experience has shown me that locking the torque converrter in third gear always yields much better mph (at least 2-4) and never detracts from ET. Even helps ET in ever case.
Or are you just going be seat of the pants guesses? Because it does feel like it may be getting slowed, but it isn't.

BTW, I lock mine manuallly, about 1-2 seconds after the 2-3 shift. That was when I was using a switch. I have the chip lock it now, and have that set to occur about 85mph.

Is it knocking? Locking the TCC puts a big strain on the drivetrain. One that can lead to false knock as well as real knock.

If you don't have enough octane to overcome the knock and the resulting timing retard, you will slow down.

Thanks for the replies.

Yes, I have only tried locking the convertor manually when at the track. Felt rpms drop and then mph gain was affected. Felt like I was just cruising through the traps rather than pulling hard like normal. Next run I didnt flip the switch and gained 5mph. I did turn the WG up a turn though also, so I no that had a bit to do with it, but the car did pull hard all the way trough.

Not positive if kr occured that was related to me fliping the switch. I dont recall having any kr at all on that run, but I will have to test and see. I have been forced to rely on Scanmaster at the track, so I dont get all the info that I would like to look at. I normally used TLink to record all my runs and then study them, but since upgrading to new version, hasnt been acting right for me............thats another story.
