...sounds like it is coming from passenger side rear axle when I make a right hand turn. It used to only happen when I was turning and backing up, but now it also happens in drive. Any opinions? Thanks!

on mine the clank was the upper control arm on passenger side , the hole for the bolt through the axle ear had elongated , for now i just migwelded the edges of contol arm hole back to size ,i plan on going to adjustables soon , this may be your problem
if its continuous on smooth roads and not related to a bumpy road then you may have a problem with your rear spider gears

My mechanic tightened the pass. front control arm but that didn't work. When you say smooth roads, do you mean turning on the road, or going staight ahead? It only happens when I turn right. I think it is coming from the rear but it is hard to tell. I guess the mechanic thought it came from the front. Anyway, I think I can rule out the control arm. But you never know.

Do you have an ATR sway bar?

Check the bolts if you do...even if it just the stocker.

Mine did that every time I turned right...especially if it was an incline (like a restaurant or gas station parking lot). I found this out "after" I jacked it up and started taking the rear end out for a rebuild. The bolts were loose enough that the bar showed signs of movement on the lca's.

I bought the car used (very used, as a matter of fact) with a ton of ATR parts on it. Could be a poster car for ATR. I believe I do have an ATR sway bar. I'll check it and get back with you. Could I have damaged anything? That clunk is really loud. Thanks a lot.

Rick, get your posi lubed, make sure you add the posi additive from GM. When your rear end clicks like that it usually means someone change the rear end fluid and forgot to add the additive or it needs to be changed.

Thanks for the jokes

Prasad

Glad you like the jokes Prasad. So I have two things to do- check sway bar and add additive.

do you have a stock posi or a locker diff, if its been changed to a locker get used to the noise , it aint broke

I crawled under the car and tightened the ATR sway bar. It really wasn't lose. Bolts on pass. side barely moved, and bolts on driver side didn't move at all. Then I noticed that the passenger side air bag was real full. Don't know why, as I never messed with it. I let some air out and now I have no clunking noise. Thanks for the replys, though.:)
