i am switching over to the lt1 maf and translator plus should i turn the 1st knob to 3 and should i remove the screen fron the sensor i am reading the instructions and i am confused it says set knob to 0 for lt1/ls1 3.5 sensor and 3 for caprice/impala sensor 3 inch the caprice has a lt1 engine this is why i am confused the sensor that i have is the same size as the stock one

That would be the #3 setting..The Caprice/Impy LT-1 maf's are 3", setting 0 is for the 3.5" maf's

One thing Ive found with Translators, is that the BASE knob should be where ever it idles best. I have owned  & installed quite a few translators and have ran 3.5 MAF's on the 3in MAF settings. I would not remove the screen.

louie l since you are an expert at this :D what is the best way to set the spark and fuel settings

I am planning on ordering the 3in MAF and translator set up. Is there anything else you need to buy with this such as adapters / connectors ?

Thanks

If they still make them, the "plug-n-play adapter, IMHO, is worth it's weight in gold. You might want to think about that option.

Plug and play is for the translator plus which is no longer being made. So we are no longer making the adaptor either

Mike I just ordered the 3 in maf and transaltor from you this morning. Am I going to have to splice a bunch of wires to get this to work ? How do you install ?

Expert? Hardly! LOL  But what settings you use are dependent on the engine combo, goals for the car and what type of chip your are using. ;)

I called Full Throttle today and got that answer also, no more adapters. :frown:
Mike or Louie, could you please tell me the pin out / color code for the harness wiring. I can install the correct mating end to fit the GN I just want to make sure I wire it correctly. :D

TIA

Unfortunately I dont have a unit here to give you the info you need. I do have a unit enroute for my TTA.

Mike Licht is the man for that kind of info anyways. He works hand in hand with the makers of the Trans.

If somehow you dont get the info you need I should have a Trans + here hopefully mid next week.

So the regular translator (not the plus) unit does not come with any adapter ? Didnt they used to ? So how do you install ?

I don't think the regular one ever did, since the adapter was for plugging into the coil module (timing adjustments).

All the other wires (for maf hookup) have all the needed connectors.

The base translator is a plug & play unit. No splicing, no cutting, no hacking. I installed my 3" B-Body MAF and base translator in about 5 minutes. I have my MAF Base setting at 3 and my MAF WOT setting at 0.

Is there anything that could get messed up by removing the screen in the LT1 MAF?

It will make the car run lean by changing the calibration of the sensor. You should be able to tune it out if you are using an extender chip
