I took it apart and see a rubber o-ring. Didn't want to venture
into the unknown. How do you remove the screen?
 
It's kind of glued in there. Take the sensor apart so you don't mess up the expensive bits and press on the screen from the inside out with your thumbs (you may need something on your skin, you may not). It should pop out.

Once out, you can blend the screen ridge into the body wall with a burr dipped in grease or a sanding roll. This will net a little more airflow.

Clean and reassemble. It should work fine.

IMO, leave it alone. All it does is introduce an error into the reported air flow. If you need the extra air get a LS1 MAF.
Believe it or not some of the design teams at GM do know what they're doing. If your not happy with the drivibility then talk to your chip guy, or start doing your own.
